Another "What is it worth thread - pa
OK gents, My name is Maury Chatellier, I'm a 41 y/o Civil Engineer from Baton Rouge, LA and I'm back in the game!!!!!!!!!
The 88' dual console is mine. Made the purchase. Couldn't get it to $4500 but I got him to $4700. Still think its a good price. Will go get it Sunday after my house guests leave and post some more detailed pics. My first question: NE1 know the length of the steering cable on the dual console models? Looking like that may be my first DIY project. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...na/Iris002.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...na/Iris010.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...na/Iris006.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...na/Iris004.jpg |
Re: Another "What is it worth thread
Looks like you got a great deal there!!
There are not many of the dullys around! We have a few here so Hope one sees this post to answer your question! Good Luck with her!! |
Re: Another "What is it worth thread
i don't know about the length, but i would suggest that when you change the cable, go to the NFB(no feed back) system. I got the kit with the helm for not too much more than just the cable for the standard saf-t helm.

Man, that is a sweet duallie for $4700. You got a killa deal!!!
Definately switch to NFB steering. |
Re: Another "What is it worth thread
Maury,
I have an 86 dually, and I found out the hard way that I should go with an 18 foot cable for the NFB steering system. My cable is supposed to arrive today. Lord willing, I'll have the time to install it later this afternoon if it comes in time. A 17 foot cable would probably work, but this is my third try and I figure a little extra length couldn't hurt. Nice boat. What year is the motor? |
Re: Another "What is it worth thread
Congrads on the purchase, glad you posted pics. for some of those obsessed pic. members we have here.
And welcome to the "cult". ;D |
Re: Another "What is it worth thread
Maury, I forgot to mention that my engine is on a bracket, so after taking that into account, I'm not sure my measurement will work for you.
The best thing to do is wait till you have the boat home and measure it out. If you're going to stick with the existing steering system, then simply remove it and measure it and order the same length. If you're going to replace it with NFB, then go to the website and follow their directions for measuring. By the way, I would highly recommend buying your NFB from Boatstore USA on the web. They've been very helpful to me... |

Thanks all.................
It will be exciting to get back in a V-20. that 75' cuddy was a great boat. Problem is, I got spoiled with twin outboards. I could always get back in even if one went out. talk about pivot on a dime with twins. The motor is an 86' that was installed new when the boat was sole in 88'. Not thrilled about it but it will suffice until I can pick up a newer model. The dual console seems to offer the best of everything, fishing convenience and recreation. Still don't think its as pretty a boat as the cuddy but I'm sure i'll get used to it.
I'll get it to the house Sunday and start my list of things to repair. I've gutted my 16' Critchfield, installed new stringers and flooring along with all the associated cables and such, so I'm not afraid of repairs. I've done fiberglass before so whenever it comes time for any transom work I'll probably go at it myself. My next question: Who is the expert or where is some good info on cutting and working with Starboard (sp?)? More pics this weekend Maury |
