North Carolina Boys

Here is the deal, the CEO has given me the green light to find a place to move in NC, I will be doing this for a few different reasons and I will be establishing a residence there if I do it. I am looking for as inexspensive a property as I can do without living in a shack. I would like to be near the water.
I would be living down there most of the time coming up to Jersey frequently obviously as we will not be selling our home here until my youngest is out of high school in five years.
I would appreciate any suggestions of areas to go to, I will have to work so I can't live to far from possible employment.

Look REEL closely at the Morehead City/Beaufort area...I think it'll be big enough for the employment you seek and still have the surrounding boating/fishing opportunities for you as well...although for travel consideration to/from NJ, north of the Outter Banks would be ideal!!...

Thanks Ozzie, based on conversations on this site Beaufort and environs was one area I was going to start in

willy 04-05-2009 08:12 AM

Also are there very large inland lakes in NC like you got in SC/GA border?

Skools Out 04-05-2009 11:33 AM

Lake Norman, Char. NC

Jordan Lake, Raleigh NC

Hyco Lake, Roxboro NC

if you go to Morehead City you'll be in my summer fishing holes and Skool's Beach house country

unless you want to be my neighbor there's a deal on a full brick 2800 + sqft house with 3.5 acres with 3 car garage new kitchen and baths in last 2 yrs and mins from highway 40/85 near 20 min to Chapel Hill, in Mebane, 30 min from Raleigh, 20 min to Durham, 25 min from Greensboro, 35 min to High Point. and near 3 fishing lakes. for he told me last night $130,000 just a thought. he is across the street and 2 house's up, even next door a guy who owns a local marina.

I hear ya! Willy might become a good ol Carolina boy. I say welcome to the fold! You'll make a nice conversion. How close do you want to be to the coast? Come to High Rock lake and just go ahead and buy yourself a waterfront home...I need a good source of whiskey whilst cruisin on the Rock. I'm 3.5 hrs from SC beaches and about 4 from NC beaches. Also to the south there is Lake Wiley and Lake Norman. Waterfront on High Rock you are looking at $300k - $400k for a pretty nice home.Lake Norman and Lake Wiley are a different story where you'd be looking at twice that ++.

Go to http://www.lakehouse.com, click on NC on the map and check out some of the High-Rock homes and compare to the other lakes. Its the cheapest waterfront you will find anywhere in the state and some great deals can be had right now. BTW High-Rock is the 2nd largest lake in NC. Lake Norman is 1st.

Now if its the coast you are looking for I think you are on the right track with Beaufort, Morehead etc. I love it down that way. Make sure to get a double driveway so I can park my V next to yours.
