Anybody have the v20 with the merc 3.7 470 motor .What kind of speed does it deliver...

I got the 470 merc. I would say she cruises around 25-30 at 3800 RPM with a top speed of around 37 at 4200 RPM. I dont push mine that hard cause she is an old girl, I only go over 4000 RPM if I have to get out of the way of someone else...

Guess you could say I am never in a hurry.....

A buddy ran a Chapparal 211 with the 470 MerCruiser for several years. That boat was a splash of the V20, right down to the small wiggle on the strake on the port bow. It ran near 40 mph and was very reliable. He did have some trouble with the small heat exchanger and upgraded to a 4" for better cooling.

I agree with CY's speed figures. Check the link below for an old post discussing this motor.

I've had good luck with mine. It runs well. I've had it for 6 years now but I can see the day coming when it won't be worth the cost to repair it. I will be replacing the exhaust manifold and riser on mine this weekend. I found a slightly used set on ebay for $225.00. The cheapest I could find new parts were for $900.00 plus shipping. Parts like this are becoming very expensive because its an old motor that's been out of production for awhile now and there just not enough demand to keep the price down. So if you have one that runs well, go with it. If your looking at some major work, it's only gonna get more expensive.

Ive got the 170hp version and love it. Its been completely rebuilt and alots been upgraded. I got it up to 42 with 5 adults last summer. It was tached out and trimmed up. Ive had a few quirks to work out but its not been too painful. Somefolks dont like them but for me, if you're a little mechanicaly inclined they're OK.
