oil injection tanks
I was wondering about my 2 cycle storage tanks, i have 1997 twin 200 os efi mercs on my other boat, i bought new,the question is ,im wondering if after 12years of them sitting in the bilge all the opening an filling will i need to empty /clean an refill,,,,,,,,,,,will i find any sludge an moisture on the bottom,,thanks jay

YES! You should definately take those tanks out and drain them and clean them out as well as replace the screens in the pick-up's and should seriously consider replacing the hoses as well. The tanks themselves should be fine, but many 2 stroke oils do contain some sludge in them and over time this will clog the pick-up screens and cause the oil tanks on the engines to eventually run dry.

Thats what i thought,,,,,,,,do i need to bleed this system after its re filled

Yes, although the MERCS are pretty easy to bleed. Depending upon which model you have all it takes is to loosen the cap on the engine mounted tank while the engine is idling until oil comes out and close it back off.

Sludge in the tank and intake is what KILLED my BIL's motor...:cen:
