Cod off Nomans Island

Hey MJ - Have you ever fished off Nomans for cod? I have heard reports from old timers that they are just south of the island this time of year.

I think the winter is getting to me.

I know people catch Cod south of Nomans I.
I have never gone out there and don't know anybody that has for Cod. Bass in season, yes.
Here's a recent report that'll wet your appetite. These guys chartered a boat just north of Boston for at trip to Stellwagon Bank for some unbelievable Cod.

I have talked to one guy who went about 25 years ago and used to fill the coolers. I just don't have a report more up to date than that. He told me to south of the black can. I am not sure where the black can is but I would find out.

In nice weather I could be there in about 45 minutes to an hour.

I only eat cod from McDonald's fillet-o-fish.

Blue, you really sure that's cod?

I just looked at the pics. Dang, I did not know cod got that big!

I'm pretty sure it is cod....or maybe it is carp!

Ok, did some research. From what I read it sounds like they used cod and maybe pollock and/or hoki later on.

Origin of the fillet-o-fish:

Today's fillet-o-fish:

The fish McDonald’s uses is now Hoki, a sustainable alternative to cod. This is sourced through Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries, and comes from the seas around New Zealand. Yes, the Filet-o-Fish is cooked from frozen and does take a little longer than the other sandwiches, but hopefully it’s worth the wait. Some menu items are frozen to ensure they are at their best when they reach the restaurants. From mid November, McDonald's Filet-o-Fish will be prepared using Alaskan Pollock fish, which is sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries. Fish Fingers will continue to be made from Hoki, also sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries
