Center floor panel repair
My center access panel in the floor was a little soft so I decided to repair it. I thought I would share some pics with you guys. Here is a picture showing my 20 gal reserve tank that the guy that owned it before me installed.

I need to do mine sometime soon, and the livewell hatch too. The grind job looks good, what are you using? Does that auxillary tank have a remote fuel fill, or is that grey hose a vent?
|
I used a 4.5 angle grinder seemed to do a good job. I was going to work on it more this week, but the cold and snow moved in so I will probably won't get it finished until this weekend. The grey hose is a vent. There is a round access hole right above the tank and it is easily filled. I was actually thinking about taking the tank out but I am looking at a 4 stroke kicker and figured it would make a good tank for that.

lookin good, wanna fix mine?

I have noticed that mine is starting to get a little soft also....what is the next step after sanding down...I've seen a few other threads where they have cut a board to fit on the bottom of hatch and then glassed over that....I have no experience with glassing so hoping there is another option.

get some epoxy resin and thicken it up with cabosil then spread the paste between the3 new wood and the glass panel and then put alot of clamps over the woods or a couple hundred pounds on top, then let it cure and then glass on top with regular polyester resin and probabaly two layers of chopped mat.

close but do not use chopped use 1 layer of 10 oz cloth only. chopped doesn't give strength like cloth or better if you want to spend it us bi axle mat cloth. but just use 10 oz or heavier cloth. 1 layer here's the one i fixed from my 21 project http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46.../21Boat055.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46.../21Boat054.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...1Boat-078S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...1Boat-079S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...1Boat-080S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...1Boat-081S.jpg you don't have to do this but i didn't want my floor hole above floor as a toe stumper so i made it counter sunk and level to be easier on the feet. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...1Boat-077S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...1Boat-076S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...1Boat-075S.jpg here it was when boat was finished http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...1/MVC-030S.jpg |
Good pics, I like that counter sink idea, I might give it a whirl.

Yeah, that counter sink is a good idea. Wish i would have thought about that before i did mine.
