Seized drain plug
 

Well here it goes,pulled boat out the other day & went to change the gear oil in the lower unit. The first wierd thing I noticed is the plugs were allen heads & not straight head. They seemed to be 5/32" allens. The upper one came out with a little resistance, but I got it out. The bottom one....no go. I ended up stripping it out. Any suggestions on gettin this SOB out? I'm gonna give any easy out a shot.:fight:

first try driving an allen socket in the hole thats a little bigger than the one that stripped it out, you might have to try a metric one, find one that fits itself with help from a hammer. I have seen people drive a torx bit into an allen head screw, it tends to grab a little better.

There shouldn't be any seals in that location to damage, CAREFULLY apply heat from a propane torch directly at that location and do like spare said. Just enough to be too hot to stick your finger to it.

When all else fails just unscrew the 3 screws that hold it on the boat, pry off the whole thing and replace, cheap and easier then screwing around with the old one. Make sure you use 5200 to seal all when you replace.
When putting the nut back in put some never seize on it and never have this problem again!!

MJ, he's talking about his lower unit's drain plug not the hulls. Like above posters said, drive a slightly larger bit in there(torx would probably work best). And hit it a few times to try and crush the seal down to relieve some of the pressure on it. Be careful using heat though as the aluminum threads tend to stick to the stainless when they get hot. Heat it and let it cool, do this a few times to try and let the disimliar metals expand and contract against each other as this will also help loosen it some.
