Godzilla

i was out today in 4 to 6's looking for the bonita.
couldnt find'em. figured i'd shoot out a bit farther and see if i could find a few weaks at the rubble.
snagged some bunker on the way out and decided to drift a couple for bass or whatever.

SLAM! my bass rod is a 6.6 stiff med. strung up with 25 mono on an oldie penn reel which i cant tell you the name.

starts ripping off line like a 50 lb bass but i know its not.
bout 20 minutes in i finally see color.
phukkin huge blue. not my biggest but dam near. took him on a bass hook. cant believe he didnt go through the leader. went 20 plus easy. maybe 25. didnt have a scale and i dont kill just to kill.

took a bigger one years back on a 50 shark setup but this one was something special. this was a tournament fish. measured him up. . . . went 34.5 inches.

biggest bluefish anybody?

Nice Blue Chuck. Some people hate catching Bluefish, but I, on the other hand, find them a blast to hook up on.
In 2000, I caught my biggest to date. 37" and weighed in at 22 lbs. 11 oz.
Prehistoric looking beast.

Nice fish....next time measure the girth and you can estimate weight:

http://www.ct.gov/Dep/cwp/view.asp?A=2696&Q=322728

(length squared X girth squared)/800

My biggest is in the 15 lb range. NY record is 25 so you were close....

And I'm considered SUPER wierd as I like to eat em.

charlie_the_tuna 10-09-2008 10:47 AM

yeah chum, they are a blast to hook and they fight like the devil.
one of my favorite fish for sport. light tackle heaven.
ferm, you are so wierd. i cant believe you eat those oily, fishy disgusting things.

I have had really good fresh bluefish caught in the Boston, MA area. I have never eaten one as big as the monster you hooked though. They are very good on the grill. Just need to bleed them as soon as they are caught.

small ones, cooked fresh, aren't too bad, although not my favorite fish. Around here, some people eat shad and mullet, I can't thinkof any fish oilier than those

Blue_Runner 10-09-2008 12:05 PM

Dang smiley you could have easily won the tourney with that fish! My biggest is 10 - 12 tops.

charlie_the_tuna 10-09-2008 09:14 PM

the boat aint runnin great, my schedule changes constantly and i'm comin out of the water real soon.
plus after a summer of boating and x-mas comin at us, the fishin trips are alot fewer and further between.
