new toys

The griswalds are hitting the road for our every other year trip to the Florida Keys.(We used to go every year for a week, but 40% of the cost is getting there & back, so now we go every other year for 2 weeks) I bought a new camera for the adventure & have a new (to me) Garmin 2010C w/ sounder. My old unit is a plotter no charts & i am really looking forward to getting to use this new one it is fantastic.

I will try to keep posting some shots of the V in Paradise

Phat, you guys have a good safe trip. I love that GPS you got there! Nice!

Also, you seem to have everything in order with your trailer - you shouldn't have much worry over a flat tire or 3.

lol why so many spare tires? hell i dont even have ONE:zip:

phatdaddy 06-11-2008 12:36 PM

I never had any tire trouble until a couple of years ago. i had Goodyear marathons that came with the trailer. they looked great, lotsa tread, etc. anyway i blew 2 going down, not a big deal, i have everything to do it quick. the bad thing is when i used the spare, i didn't feel comfortable until i had replaced it. so i spent about 3 hours pulling on & off the turnpike hunting one. this way, i have 3 shots in my gun before I have to reload.
i'm sure its overkill
i also have 4 spare hubs that are greased & packed with new bearings
hope i don't need any of them..........

C YENSEN 06-11-2008 01:18 PM

sounds like your ready for anything

Airslot 06-11-2008 03:11 PM

It pays to be prepared. I trailered about 260 miles last weekend, then had a flat tire in the driveway the next afternoon? Glad it went down at home instead of on the roadside when it was 100*....and yes, I had the spare and tolls to change it out.

phatdaddy 06-11-2008 04:06 PM

slot, that just means you had some good karma coming you way. i'll never complain about trouble in the driveway. had a friend that drove a fifthwheel rig from key west to the house in one day (750 miles), parked out front, went to bed. got up the next day to move it & broke a crankshaft in the motor..

Looking good and it's the perfect time of the year to go get some Dolphin (dorado) in the Florida Keys. Don't forget your polarized sunglasses. You all will have a great time! Were a you staying at? :sun:

phatdaddy 06-11-2008 08:16 PM

we're at Bahia Honda state park. we haven't stayed there in a while, so i need some fishing tips if anybody has any. last trip we stayed in big pine on dr's arm and the trip before that we were in Key Colony in Marathon.

i hope to get some tarpon under the 7 mile bridge or spanish channel. i have also heard there is a good grouper bite if you troll the bridges.

BuilderFL 06-12-2008 09:02 AM

Phat, check out this link to the Miami Herald's fishing report on Thursdays. It includes the Keys and what the fishing captains are reporting. You may want to gear up for Dolphin and Tuna. Do you have any fishing charts for the area with numbers to artificial reefs?

BuilderFL 06-12-2008 09:16 AM

Phat, here's a listing of the artificial reefs.

Are you staying in a cabin, tent or RV?
Also, a must stop and check it out: Islamorada World Wide Sportsman:

and by the way, the restaurant next to them, Islamorada Fish Co. is excellent!
Let me know if I can help/get you anything? I'm only a few miles from the turnpike and I can meet you at a stop.

macojoe 06-12-2008 04:16 PM

I was at that Bass Pro shop last February, Nice place!!

phatdaddy 06-12-2008 10:35 PM

this is a transom saver a buddy of mine modified for float on trailers. i thought it was pretty smart idea & works great http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...8_06120006.jpg

bradford 06-12-2008 11:10 PM

Looks good there Phatdaddy. I considered when the time comes to change my hubs to the same bolt pattern as my truck that way I have two tires with me that fit both the vehicle and the trailer. Drive safe and have fun. Get some good shots of the V!

I'm close to the Snapper Creek Service Plaza, however I've got a wedding to attend Saturday afternoon. My son is the best man and I think it's at 2:30pm. I will PM you my number and have a safe trip! Nice rig

phatdaddy 06-13-2008 06:17 AM

Toyota 2WD , ford ranger, and Ferm's rims off the pink jeep!

I'd probably wait untill both my tires and rims were shot and do a total replacement. Now that I live 2 miles from the ramp I'll probably never have the opprotunity.

Bahia Honda is a neat place. I'd rather camp there than stay in a hotel in Key Weird.

phatdaddy 06-26-2008 08:49 PM

We're back, left Bahia Honda Parking lot @ 6:38am, pulled in the driveway 758 miles later at 7: 25pm, minus $300 gas & $40 in tolls. will post later gonna hit my own bed tonight

willy 06-27-2008 07:17 AM

nice, a safe long distance tow, your own bed and toilet. life is good again.

phatdaddy 06-27-2008 06:56 PM
