Fishing Report from 5/23 - 5-25

I've never fished much over the Holiday weekend, but this year I was able to get away from work. Spent Friday night fishing with friends, Sunday night fishing with Family. I was fishing near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay with clams and crabs. We caught lots of skates, rays, and sharks...and seven of these other critters in the 70 to 80# range:hi:

WELL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Is that a black drum? Nice catch!

Seaducer 05-27-2008 10:33 AM

That definately looks like something of the drum family like we catch down in the Gulf. The ones that are a little smaller will be better eating, but if cut out all the red and blacken them, they will be much better than what you East coasters usually catch and eat.

Black Drum is correct. We fished hard for a red, but only a few were caught around us. I'm on a quest now to get my red over 50".

I was in Delaware over the holiday at my trailer
and teh park owner came around and told teh fishermen that Sunday night, one boat at Brandywine Shoals in the De bay
caught 11 drum one of which was around 80 #.

and I don't have my V in the water yet.

Seaducer 05-27-2008 11:19 AM

You come down to the south and I'll show you a 50"+ red. Not good eating, but a pretty fun catch even on heavy tackle. One of my most fun trips was when I caught a 36#er on 15lb test line; talk about nerve racking!

Airslot 05-28-2008 09:26 PM

We had 7 that would have gone 70 to maybe 90#'s. Hope to get back after them tomorrow night if the weather allows.

THEFERMANATOR 05-28-2008 09:27 PM

That there be a goodun. I remember seeing them 40-50 pounds before and thinking that they were huge.

parishht 05-29-2008 06:44 AM

Hey Air, I finally logged on at home and saw the pix,
those are some nice fish.

Airslot 05-29-2008 07:00 AM

Thanks guys. The weather is looking ideal for a litle drummin tonight. Have to see what time I can get away from the office, but I'll be out looking for BIG RED

I've caught a few in the 10# range and they pulled like a train, I can't imagine the fight those guys put up.
