My first yak trip! Well Ive made fun of kayaks in the past but now I have tried it and LOVED it. Its a neat experience that I think helps you focus on fishing more than running from spot to spot and wasting fuel/time. Man what a cool time! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...e26e034fbd.jpg My first Yak fish (and only one landed ) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...1stfish001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...1stfish002.jpg I also lost a shortie flounder and another slot red about 17" right at the YAK. The "mess"...NICE flatties my boy Toni caught. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...1stfish003.jpg He is a cool guy that I work with and let me borrow a yak. Now Im hooked!! I been looking at em myself this week. Who all yaks here and what kind do yall have? |
Now that my friend is how you beat the high gas prices! Bravo! Nice catchin stink! -jealous in NC |
See? Now you guys are catching on. Very nice Stinky. Ain't it a hoot? You are right about focusing on the fishing itself. |
 Nice going!!! I miss my Yak:hi: Are those Camo Crocks:you: |
Thats a nce Yak, Tarpon 120? Now I really miss mine, had the same one... http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...6/kayak003.jpg |
Yes its the Tarpon 120...belongs to my buddy I was with...he has a new obie Mirage with the pedals...that thing with SCOOT! |
:clap:Very Nice looking Yak CB |
What is it CB? Is that a Manta ray? |
Yeah. Liquid Logic Manta Ray 12. Probably going to drag it out of winter hibernation this weekend. Can't wait to get on it again. The Manta Ray has a lot of similar characteristics as the Tarpon in both layout and handling. |
I LOVE the manta rays! They are da bomb diggity dawg, yo! My choice would be a MR, Fish and Dive or a Tarpon 140. However...I THINK my buddy might sell me the 120 for around 400 bones...kinda hard to beat..ya know. |
$400 is a good deal for that yak. Any of the aforementioned choices will set you back about 1G after you outfit it. That's a big savings and hard to beat. |
Werd....Ive also got a lead on a few used setups around 700....theres no way I can do a grand...i would if I could, but just cant right now. |

oh jesus christ The only positive thing about this is that Stink will pervert it well beyond it's full potential. My favorite obstacles kayuckers, bicyclists and anything else in my way that refuses to yield. Remind me to show you the bicycle I take on hunting trips. |
Stink, look at Sams Club. Start off with something cheap first. While you're there look at the half wetsuits for winter seasons. |
LOL...you killin me. I cant do a cheapo...everything I do has to be done right or I wont enjoy it. I cant go way expensive, but as least a mid grade "boat" for sure. Plus I can tell this is something that I will really enjoy doing often! Im 20-50 miles from saltwater, but then most of my trips I go alone and fish within a mile of the launch...what kinda sense does that make? I need to save some fuel towing and take a YAK!!! I was just like you!! I use to dog on yakers and make fun of them big time...till I tried it! It rocks!! Dont knock it till you have tried it!! Aint that what MJ tell CB? |
Got rid of the one I had a few weeks ago. Ended up replacing it with a canoe. (only pic and that was it's normal pose) http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ubaki3/030.jpg |
My MR 12 was $721 new. I was just figuring after outfitting and a paddle, PFD, and other bling you be @ 1G I'm adding a rudder this year. |
west marine is selling ocean kayaks now, I've got an Ocean Scrabler XT, they had one in the store teh other day for just under $500. I've my scrambler ready to go , all i need is the time to use it |
CB you the man, an old geezer like you paddling about, amazing. |
always wanted a sit on top. mostly for surfing and such. i'm about 225 feet from the beach. wife says wont be boating as much this year due to gas prices. i told her i would forgo boating once a week if i could buy a kayak. something like the cobra revision. by the way stinko, gay shoes. |

Dang, all the old geezers have yaks! LOL I might have to get me one....................when I grow up. |
Sean....I like the color of your tarpon.... CTT...make fun of my shoes all you want, but they rock! After fishing offshore Ill usually have aching feet/calves when I wore my topsiders or sperrys. The first tric I wore with these (not crocs, these are a nother brand that is softer than crocs) I fished through the night for 18 hours straight and not a SINGLE pain the next day. |
My mom bought a couple Hobie kayaks that she has up at her cottage on Scituate Harbor. I hate the darn things because you simply cannot go out in them without getting your arse and lower 1/2 of your shirt wet. |
just depends on the yak. I was dry as a bone after 4 hours of fishing the Tarpon. :sun: |
I think you are right. I checked out Hobie's website, and my Mom has the lanai model, which is a very short (9') yak. Putting my big arse in it is probably overloading the poor little thing. |
For sure.....I wouldnt want a fishin yak less than 12. JMHO. |
I have been talking to CB and thinking about getting one also!! But the money is not there right now. I will try CB's at some point and see how it is. And if there is a lot of interest for a yak forum I will make one. But has to be for more then 1 or 2 persons. |
I don't care how much ya'll talk them up THEY STILL LOOK GAY!!!!! |
 heres a good deal on a stingray http://www.charlestonfishing.com/for...TOPIC_ID=59374 |
