New (to me) motor arrived

 The beast is here. 2001 Mercury (Yamaha) 90 hp four stroke. It is a heavy beast of a motor for 90 hp. 386lbs.:head: The guy delivered it to MJ's junkyard, errrr.....I mean appliance repair, errrrr.....house. yeah. That's it.
Aside from a couple of scuffs on the motor cover, it appears to be in great shape. Approximately 100 hours on the motor. Just serviced at the dealer the end of last year. Came complete with controls, wiring, tach, cales, etc. I just need a prop for it.
For your viewing pleasure..........we'll start of with one of the big guy himself. Master appliance tech MJ;

I think I did okay for $2500. Now I just have to get it hung on the boat and sell the old motor and controls.

TunaHead 03-27-2008 02:24 PM

Chumbuddy thats a great deal. I paid $2000 last year for a used 15hp 4 stroke. Once you get that crusty stuff in the first picture cleaned off it'll be perfect.

Sean 03-27-2008 02:26 PM

Nice Going CB:clap: Motor looks great! And you even got a super model to pose with the engine:beer:

chumbucket 03-27-2008 02:28 PM

That crusty stuff might make the belt brake over time.
Better get rid of it now. :you:

Bygracealone 03-27-2008 02:41 PM

Nice! Congrats CB. Won't be long now buddy. I wish I lived closer, I'd give you a hand...

Removing that crust in the first pic is at least a four to five man job ;-)

Blue_Runner 03-27-2008 02:56 PM

Awesome CB - you did great!

parishht 03-27-2008 03:29 PM

msbhammer 03-27-2008 08:35 PM

Oh wow, its only a 90 hp. Didnt realize it. Thats a monster of a motor for only a 90 hp Chum.

cterrebonne 03-27-2008 09:10 PM

fill up some really big ballons with helium and tie them to the motor to offset the weight when your not on plane j/k
nice engine man.

lumberslinger178 03-27-2008 09:21 PM

you did great cb good luck with her ...........
mj what time you want me at ur place:you:

chumbucket 03-27-2008 10:04 PM

Thanks guys. Just needs a good cleaning. The motor sat on a pallet at the marina since last year. She'll clean up nice though.
$2500 for this motor and I think I can get $1500 for the 50hp complete with controls, wiring, cables and stainless prop based on what most motors in this area are selling for. At the end I'll be into this for $1000 plus the cost of a new prop.

Hammer, come around more often and you'll be able to keep up with all the changes around here. No V for me.:hi: I just needed something small and good on gas for me and the little guy. I'll slum with MJ for the big water stuff.

Go there right now, back gate open!! NO one home you can have for free!!:sun:

chumbucket 03-27-2008 10:50 PM

Anyone could walk away with just about anything in MJ's yard. If he's not there, nobody else in the family would even have a clue. :sly::oh:

macojoe 03-27-2008 10:56 PM

You got that right!!!!!

You could go there with a tank fire off a shot and run the gate down and when I get home in the AM I would go in the house and wake all up ask what happened and they would all look at me and say what are you talking about??:bat:

charlie_the_tuna 03-28-2008 12:41 AM

chumbucket 04-03-2008 05:13 PM

Sold the 50 hp Johnson today for $1300. So that brings the cost of the 90 four stroke down to $1200. Works for me.

More money for.

Sean 04-03-2008 05:17 PM

Nice going! I'll drink to that:beer:

chumbucket 04-03-2008 07:01 PM

lol

chumbucket 04-03-2008 10:11 PM

He's not going to find a cleaner better running motor locally for that kind of money. He really was being a nudge about every little thing. He tried to tell us it was misfiring, which it wasn't. The only issue that came up was that the neutral safety switch caused the motor to not start twice. Just had to move the control lever back and forth a bit. Probably just a dirty wire contact. That motor starts so easy, it's rediculous to think that it might be misfiring.

C YENSEN 04-04-2008 07:37 AM

I dont know how I missed this post but i did:head: she is a beaut Chum. Nice work, when is the shake down cruise?

chumbucket 04-04-2008 09:14 AM

Well, the boat will be leaving the Maytag Repairmans yard next week. I have a guy a couple miles from my house that said he would rig the new motor and controls for a couple hundred $$. I know I can do the job, but he's got the shop and hoist and all and he does it all the time. I figure it's money well spent and I don't have to rig a come-along to hoist the motor. The guy that bought the Johnson from me lives just down the street from him, so he'll take that then.
So, if all goes as planned, I should be making a shakedown run in about two to three weeks. I have to set up my VHF and GPS/Fishfinder, and flipback cooler seat, but I can do that anytime once it's back here in my yard.

macojoe 04-04-2008 09:22 AM

I wanted to go for a ride yesterday when we were at the water but CB said no :fight: We had the boat backed in and all!! There was just some thin ice floating near the dock not much, he is such a BlTCH!!:bat:

Stinky_Hooker 04-04-2008 09:36 AM

chumbucket 04-04-2008 06:51 PM
