Took six months to get her W.E.T.

Well, the long awaited, much anticipated day has finally arrived. She's going to the water!
Still some cosmetics left to do. Bottom paint ( I'm waiting to see my new waterline),
hit the hatches with durabak and install, plumb the livewell and whatknot.
Got my girl, rods and reels, beer, publix fried chicken, and tools of course.
Will post pics tonight! Wanted to go to the snapper banks, but I think I'll stay close on the maiden voyage.

GIRL - 42 years of age and really smiley & curvy.
BOAT - Wellcraft 20CC- closed transom and a stainless marine bracket. 150 2stroke yami.
RODS & REELS - shimano
BEER - Newcastle
CHICKEN - ONLY FREE RANGE.
It's just horrible how in-human the treatment of chickens can be. Just mess'n, round,
off with the head, into the grease.

chumbucket 03-21-2008 06:45 AM

Nice! You must be pretty fired up. Did you sleep at all last night?
Bring a grease pencil with you to mark your waterline if you're planning on bottom paint.

Did you fish the snapper banks in your 20cc often?

tsubaki 03-21-2008 12:57 PM

Besides the obviously wanted pictures also include the performance numbers (speed, gph, etc). And how bout take it easy on banking the snapper and fish a little and also post pictures of them.

Although, you are one lucky SOB:clap:.

whatknot 03-22-2008 06:51 AM

I almost didn't make it in yesterday. All my fishin', chickin, whatknot got phuck'd.
I did finally make it though after what seemed like a million little things. Sorry guys, my girl was the only one with the camera. But she had a lot of clothes on anyway cause of the wind. I'm calling it my pre-launch day. I promise to get you dawgs something to bark at later. As far as the boat, with 60 gallons of fuel and 4 people she did 37mph right off the bat. Hopped on plane real good. I could not be more impressed with the lowrance unit with the LMS-400. At WOT she drank 15gph with a full load. I see what ya'll mean about the weight distribution though. I need to drop the engine as low as possible. I was seeing the top of my hydrofoil. Tested my bait pump too. I wired a "minuteman 2" bait timer into my switchbox that allows me to have 2 pumps (in and out). This will let me utilize the in deck 18 gallon livewell at the stern.
All in all it was a very satisfying day. Even without the bikini. I'll take more picks on the next outing. Thanks to all who provide here.

Nice job Whatknot. Glad you got her wet.......uh, the boat I mean.

THEFERMANATOR 03-22-2008 10:18 AM

I wouldn't be worried about your fin coming out of the water on plane. How did it handle is the question. On my flats boat the cavitation plate is about 2 1/2" s out of the water with the jack plate all the way down, you oughta see it when I raise it up to get her movin. And from looking at your pictures and your balance, I would get some small trim tabs(BENNETT M-80's).

Bygracealone 03-22-2008 10:52 AM

Whatknot, very nice looking boat! You have all the ingredients I would want in a V20: full transom, center console, with a 150. That said, I noticed that she sits a bit heavy at the stern. Mine does too, but at a stop my scuppers are still just above the waterline, though depending on the water conditions they bounce above and below the waterline. It looks like your scuppers are totally under the water even at a stop. Was water coming into the boat through them? This makes me believe that getting a 150 instead of my 200 really wouldn't make anything better as far as the way she sits in the water... Also, was your bait tank full at the stern? That would also weigh it down back there. My bait tank is also back there; factory installed. Don't know why they put it there...

Truth be told, I haven't seen many water shots of V20's where the scuppers weren't close to being under water. I suppose this is a design flaw in our boats :head:

Nevertheless, your boat is beautiful. Good work!

THEFERMANATOR 03-22-2008 11:29 AM

BGA, it looks as though he is running a late model 150 YAMAHA which would be essentially a 200 de-tuned. So his engines weight is pretty close to that of your 200.

Bygracealone 03-22-2008 11:33 AM

Ahh, okay. Thanks Ferm, that makes sense...

By the way, I sent you an email last night. Did you get it? I should have sent it through the PM's instead... sorry about that...

Yep, I got it. I responded back to your Email, but AOL has been lacking for me lately in delivering them.

Bygracealone 03-22-2008 11:49 AM

No worries, just wanted to check and see if you got it. I'll use the PM's next time ;-)

tsubaki 03-22-2008 04:25 PM

Lookin good whatknot.....oh and the boat to.
Play with the motor a while at the height it is now, if it dosen't ventilate or do anything weird leave it alone.

whatknot 03-22-2008 06:10 PM

There are no scuppers right now. Everything runs to the bilge. The boat seems to stay dry and I won't be leaving it in overnight unless I'm camping a few feet from it. Haven't had it in rough water though. Wondering if a t-top will make me happier. Bait tank was empty. My tank won't need to be filled to the rim most of the time. Shrimp don't need much water, but menhaden do when I go offshore. As far as trim tabs go, what's the word on the QL system. Anyone have any experience w/them? And thanks for the kind words. It was a great 1.5 hour trial run. I took this boat down (short of removing the bow rail)I did all that by myself? huh. Looking for a gallery to show progress and almost finished product.

bradford 03-22-2008 07:07 PM

Lookin good there Whatknot! What flavor ya got in the red solo cups?

whatknot 03-22-2008 10:13 PM

Blue_Runner 03-28-2008 11:57 AM

Whatknot - lookin really good. Love the cc on a bracket.

What was your max rpm at wot when you hit 37mph?

TunaHead 03-30-2008 11:28 PM

Why do I keep "re-reading" this thread?

whatknot 03-31-2008 09:20 AM
