Installing A Stereo

Hey all again...Was just wondering, what have you guys done as far as installing a stereo in the boat. Where have you mounted it?? Should I use a poly planar type mounting box or any other type to suggest. Also as far as speakers where to mount??Pics would be greatly appreciated if posted... As always, I appreciate the help beforehand and remember to turn your clocks ahead...Few more weekd to spring I hope and get the boat uncovered...

My son had a AM/FM/CD player he took out of his truck that he sold, so being I had a hole already cut under the dash I trimed it out in mahogany and mounted it there. I dont leave it in, just pop it in before I take it out. As for speakers I made some plyboard boxes to fit up under the gunnels and mounted two 6 inch Jensens in them. You cant see them unless you lay on the floor. Sounds really good for a cheap setup. I bought a foot long black rubber antenna and mounted it on the port gunnel beside the windshield, picks up great. Oh and welcome to the site! Some others mounted theirs in the cabin!

When i bought the boat, one was in the cabin, i changed it out last year with this one that has a cd player and mp3 input...its kind of a pain to get to , if i had to do over, i'd probaly move it to the passenger side cuddy bulkhead. i think they are a lot more water proof than they used to be.

I'm shopping round also and this is what I'm going to do. The ipod connection is the way to go for me. No skipping and tons of my own music.

I'm still up in the air as far as how to install...Gimbel bracket, non gimbel backet..If i build something??I was thinking of possibly putting speakers on side of chairs, but then again I'm not sure....Maybe I'll just use my little transistor radio...ha,ha,ha......

MJ buys a new $7 shower radio every year.
His new boat has a real stereo already installed though. I'm gonna mis the tin sounds of the shower radio.

Nothing wrong with a jam box, when you get to the beach you can take it along.

I went the el cheapo route....made friends with people who own ipods with portable docking stations. Didn't cost me a dime!

I FOUND A MOUNTING BOX MADE BY POLY PLANER FOR $13.99 AND i THINK I MIGHT GET IT...JUST HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO MOUNT INSIDE THE CABIN..

I know. I think it won't be the same listening to a real stereo.
