knowing what Yamaha started the hp rating at for their V8, I wonder what the next hp will be available for it? 400,425, 450? Maybee all the way to 500
All i know is, Mercury has had enough issues with the verado at 300 to be worried about making 350. AS far as E-Tec goes, they don't have a real good reputation around here, I have spoken to several very unhappy e-tec customers, of course I've spoken to at least the same amount of happy ones |
Mercury's 350 Verado is only an inline 6! Wonder if they plan for an Inline 8?

keep in mind its a supercharged, intercooled 6. I heard rumors of a supercharged V10 being tested, when will the insanity end? Seriously, i see the future of otuboards will be diesel. Yanmar allready builds a 20hp diesel OB. vegetable based 20% biodiesel is allready becoming available at marinas. Diamond aircraft is currently manufacturing a twin engine diesel aircraft that has met eroupean certification, its pending faa certification now. With the technology to manufacture a diesel for a light aircraft, certainly a diesel outboard won't be too far off. Oh, and by the way. Mercury allready manufactures 175 opti based multi fuel engines for the navy that will run on JP5

from what i have seen. most un happy etec customers would be unhappy regardless what brand they bought. what usually happens they owned another brand then they switch to evinrude and expect the world and if somthing extremely miniscule happens they throw a fit.

naw, the ones i met had blown up power heads and were waiting for a replacement, they had allready been thru the ecms overheat, software up date, fuel pump update, several repropings, It seems as some of the e-tecs never give any problmes, but the ones that do, never stop

Ferm, thanks for the link, that retrofit set up looks interesting, wonder what the cost is? I like the idea that it burns 6 gph at rated power(225 hp). I think the deisel will be to future of big outboards. there are a lot of boat manufacturs that are building big outboard(besides the ska mackeral missles) fishing boats. the days of the gas inboard are numbered, too slow, too much fuel. Gas sterndrives are more effeciant, but they cost a lot and don't hold up well if left in saltwater( with exception to the Volvo XDP). A pair of those 300 diesel outboards on the back of a 36 Grady or Scout would be a nice set up, yeah you will probably get out run by the gas burning go fast crowd, except at the fuel dock |

Deisel outboards are interesting but I like this configuration better! A single 600 hp deisel engine driving two outdrives. Although it might be a tight fit in a V20.

kamikazi, where did you get those pic of the single diesel,twin drive boat, thats a neat set up, kinda thought about doing that myself(just thought about it, i don't have the money or the boat to do it). I'd like to see more of that set up

I ran across it on the Dusky website. Apparently they are starting offer a 33 center console configured in this manner. Not sure what woud happen if one of the drives went. Those diesel outboards lok pretty sweet. I know years ago they couldn't sell them in the US because of emission problems not meeting our all-mighty, and all knowing governments regulations. 700 pounds is really heavy for a 200hp though. Probably swamp a V. I'd love to have one though.

on that diesel even though its a heavy 200 it should have a crap load of torque though especially if its forced induction diesel.

I've often thought of using the power spiltters hooked to a single engine to repalce a twin I/O set up, it allows you to position a single diesel in the middle of the boat and keep it low in the boat

Says they be in DESTIN. I'd like to see one of there set-ps in a 26 BERTRAM with a 425 HP 5.9L CUMMINS in front of it backed by a pair of BRAVO 1's.
