BGA is Looking for a Center Console
Hey guys,
If you come across a good deal on a center console, I'd appreciate it if you let me know. I'm looking for something from 20-23 ft (ideal would be 21-22) and between $5-6k, preferably powered by J/E, but not necessary. T-top preferable as well... Here are a few I've been looking at; opinions are welcome. If this guy would take $6k, I'd be on it (I don't know why he refers to it as a nice "starter boat"): http://norfolk.craigslist.org/boa/560012675.html This one's nice, but only 19 feet... http://atlanta.craigslist.org/boa/559408229.html Who knows how much this one will end up going for??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/wellc...em180215369782 I would love an Aquasport 222 CCP: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=011 Hammer, no Bayliners buddy... Steve |
just emailed you a nice 23' Sea Ox Center Console for $4500 OBO

Thanks Skools. I emailed the guy for a few more details and pics since the ones he posted turned out like negatives...
You don't think that's too old of a boat? I know those things were built like tanks, but 1978 is pretty old... |
|
If you find a good fiberglass boat and it was taken care of a 1901 is not to old!!!!!!!!!
I like my Sea Ox so far, I have invested a lot into this boat and I only been in it 6 times!! But I can tell she is a winner! What you waiting on with the last boat you posted? It looks great! |

1. Most important: the collective wisdom of our esteemed group :-) 2. To see if the guy has a trailer for her. I'm thinking he doesn't. |
my sea ox you saw is a 77 and it's hull is 3 times as thick in glass as our V20's much better built boats, but heavy. will out last you for sure.
|
Thanks for that Skools.
Hey, Iboats has the following info on that sea ox: The 1978, 2300 Center Console is a 22.58 foot outboard boat. The weight of the boat is 1980 lbs. which does not include passengers, aftermarket boating accessories, or fuel. The max rated horsepower of this boat, as listed by the manufacturer, (according to records we have) is 240 hp . Do you know the size of the beam on that baby? |
NADA only goes as far back as 1980, but says:
Boats and Personal Watercraft 1980 SEA OX SEA OX 230 Outboard Boats Length: 23' Model Name/Description: SEA OX 230 Boat Type: Outboard Boats Hull Material: Fiberglass Beam: 8' 6" Engine: N/A Net Weight: 4000 |
Woe! That's a big difference in specs! 1980 pounds versus 4000 is huge. That's a monster beam size as well. I'm liking this boat...
Based on what Skools has said and what MJ has just posted, I tend to think Iboats has it wrong... |
my father had a 79 Comercial model 20 ft SeaOx, it was the slowest, roughest riding, wettest boat i have ever run.

Stillrunning,
Thank you for being so courteous. If you don't mind, that boat is still at the top of the list. I just emailed the guy. If you'd give me just a couple days, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Steve |
What do you guys know about the Sea Ray Laguna that Pearch mentioned?
|
You finally get the V in the water and now you are looking for something else? What's up BGA?
|
Yeah, I don't know what's up with me RM... Right after I bought the dually, I already had the itch for a center console. I don't know what it is about center consoles, but I really like them. If I find one and buy it, I'll be putting the v up for sale come Spring. The only reason I'm looking now is because this seems to be the time to buy, given the season and the recession... should be able to find a great deal.

I know it more than you wanted to spend but It can't hurt to see how much room he has? Plus he's relatively close to you http://baltimore.craigslist.org/boa/569903695.html Kamikaze |

Take a road trip and slap your motor on this one. I know you like those Aquasports! And while your down there we both know where there is a t-top with 4 rod holders in great condition for 500.00? http://tampa.craigslist.org/boa/570411565.html Kamikaze |

It took me a while to re-find it but I like this one. http://tampa.craigslist.org/boa/555792506.html Kamikaze |
i used to work at a Sea Ray dealer and I really liked the Laguna's. Well built, solid ride, great fishing platform. Down side is most searay customers pay way too much for their boats because it says searay on the side, theyare allmost as bad as Whaler customers. Watch the prices and you might find a deal on one. Be carefull when comparing the Laguanas, they did some weird things with the lengths, the earlier 17s were bigger than the later 18's and the earlier 20's were bigger than the later 21's. And in case you wondered, the white SR motors are just mercurys.
Check this site time to time, there are some deals to be found on here every once in a while http://www.charlestonfishing.com/for...ds.asp?catID=1 |

that 20 Laguna is a big 20, but its not a whole lot bigger than a V
|
been out on a guys 24 Luguna at the beach not the best boat in rough water. plus sea ray has thin hulls. do ya want a pic of the bottom of one with a hole in it to see how thin they are lol got one . heck come buy my 250 sea ray Fisherman it's a rare hull for SR.
|
Skools,
Thinner hull than a V? How does it compare to the V in handling rough water? Thanks for all the responses guys; very helpful and much appreciated. |
I've been in a 250 SEARAY in a mild chop. It involved a trip to the chiropractor afterwards. The SEARAY I re-did last year was the same hull as SKOOLS's 250, not a soft riding boat IMHO. This one here is a little bit more money and a bit far away, but right up your alley. If he'd come down on his price to say $5K I'd be all over it.

Ferm, I saw that one and was attracted, but never heard of Oceanic. Do you know anything about it? |
It looks like a solid built boat, but definately is not a copy of the famous BERTRAM 20 footer. Nowhere near enough deadrise on it to be a BERTRAM copy. It looks rather similiar to a HYDRA SPORT to me, which is a good hull.

here's another dusky in Rhode Island. Not sure if it's still avaiable or not but it looks clean http://www.nbssportfishing.com/vBfor...r-5900-a-6171/ Kamikaze |
Dusky looks nice!! I just called the guy to see if its still there? He wasn't in but I left a name and # to see if he calls back.
I still say Sea Ox! But I am a little bias  |
That Dusky looks nice, as does the other one Kamikaze posted. Those boats look pretty big, maybe a bit too big of a boat for me (as far as towing is concerned). This last one has a nice looking tower on it, but I don't know what use it would be to me. I suppose it could be removed and sold and replaced with a normal T-top... Plus, the guy said he'd deliver within 300 miles (for a fee) maybe he'd go 400?... Let's see if the guy gets back to MJ.

Hydrasports
I do not post much on this site, being I sold my V-20 a while ago. I have since replaced the V-20 with a Hydrasports 1750 Vector Center. Let me tell you the Hydrasports team know how to build a boat my 1750 makes the trip from Montk. NY to Block Island and she loves 2-3.5 foot chop and all is dry. Moriches Inlet NY a walk in the park for her. If you are looking to make the move to a CC check out Hydrasports Vector boats.
|
Thanks for the plug Greateastern. I've heard nothing but good things about the Hydra Sports. Because of this, they're typically a bit on the expensive side. Sounds like they're probably worth it though...

I just got word that the Chris Craft was sold a while ago; they forgot to remove the ad. Oh well, the guy said there was some flex in the transom, so I probably wouldn't have bought it anyway... |
