86 V-20 cuddy
What type of gas tank(s) does a 86 v-20 cuddy have. Side tanks or 60 gal floor tank. If it has side tank(s) what size are they?
my 1986 cuddy has got a 60 gal in the floor, and yours should too unless there were previous mods. done
86 should be a 60 gallon poly tank below the deck unless it has been changed out.
my tank is stock original aluminium....I thik they went to poly in 1988 or 1990 [?]
I looked at an 86 before that definately had a factory poly tank in it. Even had the warning label by the fuel filler saying not to use any fuel with ethanol in it.
My 86' has an aluminum tank also.60 gallon under the floor up front.
Welcraft mixed and matched a lot of things as they went along! Doesn't surprise me that they are poly & Aluminum.
Yeah, they are like me...they used whatever they needed to get rid of!
I have an 86 with a poly floor tank in a 192 American. I just got off the phone with Wellcraft customer service and was told that the ploy tanks are good with ethanol fuel. The problem is with the filler hose, vent hose and the gasket for the sender they must be changed unless the boat is mid 90 and up. I just replace the floor two years ago and didn't want to rip it up again to change the tank. Dennis

Thanks everyone for the info, I have to pull that inspection cover to fix some soft spots so I'll find out what I have.

Thanks for the info on the tank Terry. I tried to fire it today, I drained the old gas out of the motor and feed it with new gas, but the fuel pump is partially gummed up, we can hear it run but it is sluggish. My marine buddy is running the pump tonite in his cleaning tank and he said sometimes this will starighten it out. He says this is normal with motors that sit for a while and is becoming more common with the ethenol in the fuel.
I'm working on it, I'll have it running soon. You will have to come down one weekend and run the boat after we get her going. :sun: |
try merc power tune thru the fuel pump, its what I use to free'm up. also try to reverse the polarity on the wires and spin the motor backward for a few seconds, thats what mercruiser reecomends in one of their service bulitens

Where can I get another fuel pump (90psi) and what do you think it would cost? |
ebaisc power not sure on the price, if you have the large two pump vapor separator, they won't sell teh low pressure one by itself, you have to get the assembly, it runs around $750, If you have just a seprate pressure pump, I think Volvo gets around $250, aftermarket somewhere around $100. If you don't see it on basic powers web site, call them, drive down adn pick it up, while you're there throw a line out off the cape
Oh, forgot to say, only try reversing the power with the pump off the engine, would'nt want to start a fire and burn your V up |
Thanks Spare, My local guy said he got it clean and said it's ok, I heard this 2nd hand from his son, I'll talk to him tomorrow and see for sure.
