More project pics.

Well,

I'm over the hump. I finally finished all the painting on the boat. Ive got a little bit of gelcoat repair to do on the transom. I just finished painting the nonskid areas Friday. It's getting to the point where things can start going back on/in. I'm going to try and post some before and afters, hope it works.

That looks REALLY good! What paint are you using? Are there any specific issues to address on the deck and other areas that see abraision/foot traffic?

Thanks guys, it's been a helluva lot of work but it's really starting to come together. I had another productive evening today, i got my new hull numbers put on, one cleat installed (what a Bi@*# that was), installed two new cable boots in the motor well and filled the holes/cracks in the transom with gelcoat.
Havis, I'm using Devoe 201 (2 part) epoxy primer and 379 (2 part) uerethane enamel for the top coat. As far as abrasion resistance, it's supposed to be great. I'll post a link to the product data page. Awlcraft 2000 list for over $200 a gallon, I paid less than $50 a gallon for this top coat, $20 for the primer. Both those prices are with a company discount but I don't think it would be a whole lot more. I'll keep the pics coming.

i tell you what is the best thing i've found for painting the inside of your boat is truck bed liners by Rhino they will do all the sanding and can be sprayed smooth with best of all a transferable warranty. I got mine done the whole thing from the rub rail the whole inside for $500 with the lifetime warranty. It's great not slick wet and no cracking plus water tights the whole inside.

shicks, yer killin me, Just when I thought I could rest, you did a great job. Mines going in for paint soon. Gonna do off white on the topside to the rubrail, and either a cobalt blue or teal color on the hull from the rubrail to the tape line. I already got all new stainless hardware, rod holders etc. Pulling the outdrive to change all the bellows and hoses, and paint the outdrive also. But boy does yours look great. Hey Shicks, I cut down the bowrail, but I think I'm gonna take mine off altogether. If your interested, its could be yours along with new stainless hardware.

Franco - I can't wait to see a V20 with a blue hull. That will look gorgeous (I am partial to cobalt, but the teal will look good too I bet.) When do you expect to have it painted?

Re: More project pics.

Franco,
After seeing this boat I considered taking off my bow rail, but I figured it was nice when I take the kids out. They like to sit up there. I could be interested in your old rail if the price was right.

Buckley, I'm fighting my first outdrive problem. I need to replace a bellows on the drive and I have a frozen bolt. If I cant get that bolt out I may have to replace the transom shield too. I wanna get the mechanical ready before I paint it. I have access to the body shop where I work so spraying it is not a problem.

Shicks, check your private message.

Shicks, the boat looks great. My kids use the bow rail too when we're at anchor and they're sitting up there. Why was the cleat so hard? My '86 has laughable cleats that I'd like to replace with larger ones this winter. But seeing what you've done i'm imagining that if it's hard for you, then it's going to be impossible for me. Thanks

Re: More project pics.

CT,

* The cleat I installed was the port side aft. The reason it was kicking my a$$ was it was so hard to get to. I still have the port side saddle tank in, a rod holder and a downrigger mount all shoved back in the corner. I made some S.S. backing plates and had to line it up along with the washers and nuts all by "feel". Other than that ther's nothing to it. My boat came with 6 1/2" cleats that were chrome plated zink (quite rotten). The new ones are 6" S.S. They look a little small on the boat, but they should be plenty big enough for 3/8" mooring lines.

Good Luck,
Scott

Re: More project pics.

I got my teak bow strips and sliding hatch cover installed this afternoon. I also mounted both of the seats (new folding Garelick) and pedistals(blasted and painted white), GETTING CLOSER!!!!!!! The to do list is shrinking. I sanded and applied 3 coats of Cetol to all the teak, that stuff is pretty nice. I hope it holds up like everyone says.
I finally decided to have my saddle tank covers recovered in white quilted channel. I couldn't bear putting the 76' yellow stuff back in after all this work. It would be easy enough to do but all the fabric I found comes in 54" widths and would have to be seamed. That rules me out. I'll try to post some pics tomarrow, it got dark on me tonight.

Re: More project pics.

Here's a couple more pics to share of new seats. I plan on putting a couple 150qt cooler directly behind each seat. There's also pic of the repaired sliding hatch cover and refinshed teak. I could still make Labor Day. I long for this fall when there's fish slime and blood on the deck :D

Looks Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its nice to do the work yourself!! At least for me.

I thought about the bed liner thing but they wanted $1,000 for LineX and close to that for the Rhino, so I said forget it!

Re: More project pics.

Thanks guys,

I sandblasted and painted my pedistals with epoxy and 2 part uerethane. I saw some white powder coated pedistals at Boater's World. I had the one captains chair already, I bought the second at Budget boats for $20.00 with the swivel spider. With any luck I'll get the engine mounted this weekend.
