Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
what yr boat?
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
Franco replaced stringers in an i/o. Also, there's some pix in the gallery somewhere that shows the floor lifted on an older V20. Some have used seacast. Good luck and keep us posted with pics if you decide to dive in.

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
hey DAB if it's a pre 1980 well 78 but if it's pre 80 raise the floor 6 inches while it's out and make the boat a deck drain boat and install a belly tank.
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
its a 72 outboard u r sayin i can raise the deck 6 inches
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
yeah if you rip out the floor to the stringers just add 5 inch's to the stringers that way when you floor it you will be around 5 1/2 to 5 3/4 inches higher that way it will deck drain just floor over the hole in the rear center and put an access hatch there and that way you can open it to get to the bilge pumps.

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
Hey Dab, I cut out the floor last year on my 84. I cut a line level with the bottom of the rod holders around the deck. I have Pics in the gallery. It was'nt really that bad. Just have to try to get one rib out in good shape, so you can get a template for the others where they go to the gunnels. I was able to get the wood out by using some chisels after grinding the top of the stringers and ribs off. I pried the glass back and got the old wood out. It was a job but well worth it. She doesnt rattle anymore.

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
yeah but Vic yours is a much newer hull with the higher deck and the cap has the floors molded together, Dabs is much older and hasn't got rod boxes and the cap is seperate from the floor.

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
did that site open i sent the other boats are there too. the Manatee is one i put a floor and transom in as well.

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
ya it did tx

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
Skool, does the floor have to come up that much?? Seems like a lot. I was thinking the floor might have to go up as far as the bottom of where the saddle tanks sit, but I don't think that is 6". I might rethink my belly tank idea. :'( Then again, I was thinking I'd be happy with a fourty gallon tank. Maybe I wont have to go up as far... :-/h

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
hold on i'll go measure my floor to bottom of hull to see how high it needs to be off the center bottom of boat.
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
ok my floor measures from the bottom center of the boat to the bottom of the deck 16 inches. If i were you i'd raise it 2 inches over that to 18 inches. do you want pics of where i measures and all or does this make since.
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
Makes sense to me! I'm just glad we aren't still talk'n 6". I just measured the top of my floor and 2" is about 1/2" below the flat surface where the saddle tanks sat so going by your measurements it looks like I can stick to plan A ;D. Thanks Skools!

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
Pics are still cool, though. Do you have the whole floor out?
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
no my floor was good. i measured in the rear floor storage holes. yeah i wasn't positive on how low it was in the older models but yeah rasie it up and you will have a deck drain boat. i'd personally go 18 inches from center bottom of the boat to the underside of the floor.

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
wet doesn't mean rotten. if it's wet and yellow then let it dry. it will be fine.

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
Not a bad looking boat at all. How much did you pay ??
So how do you reinstall the floor now, so the floor just doesnt flop in ?, install brackets to keep the side flush ? Tricks of the trade I guess. Mike. |
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
Hey Dab,
I noticed the transom has rods run to the bilge area. That's a sure sign the transom is shot. You'd be better off to cut the whole floor out transom to the dash and all sides. You'll have to cut the cap to put a new transom as well unless you are removing the whole cap. |
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
The Transom is probably rotted . . . but I would do the transom repair from the outside, rather than inside out. Unless the desk cap core is rotted out too . . . I'd leave the deck cap alone.
Here's a good example of redoing the transom from the outside. http://www.classicseacraft.com/hammers20CCpage2.htm |
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
thats a good idea i was thinking of plunging it with a chain saw and then just filling it with resin
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20

Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
make it a solid 25 inch transom don't put the 5 inch drop back in it. or go solid with bracket.
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
iam thinkin off building a jack plate but i dont know the formula on where 2 put it
|
Re: has anyone ever picked up the deck on a v20
better off to build it even all the way across since it's out see where mine was built from like yours to a 28 inch in the center but that's for twin 25 inch motors.
