1972 V20 CC transom job more pics!!
Well, as usual I can't leave well enough alone. I decided to dig deeper since I found this nice 40 gallon tank. There is also a 28 inch console in a mold out back, I decided not to re-do my old F'ed up console, and use the new custom one. No star board on my boat!
under the deck fuel tank? why not. I can also get the batteries under the console now!!! http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...w/DSCN3516.jpg I used a shovel and assorted tools to de-foam between the wobbly stringers (glad I decided to explore under the skin) http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...w/DSCN3519.jpg The second side of the transom is in. One more full sheet to go. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...w/DSCN3524.jpg |

OTF, you leaving the raised deck forward as is? What's the main purpose of the boat? Flyfishin? What kind of water?

Re: 1972 V20 CC transom job more pics!!
Tin, i am leaving the forward deck--I like the extra distance I get throwing a fly from a foot higher, shoot I stand on the front gunnel deck when it's one foot or less :)

I was wondering if you could do me a favor. I am thinking of installing an in-the floor live well just aft of the forward deck and was wondering if you could provide measurements of the space where you have your tank mount so I can shop for a bait well prior to ripping it all apart. Thanks Kamikaze FYI. The reason I'm looking at installing a live well maybe of interest to you. I see you are enclosing your transom and assume you will be installing a bracket? If so, I recommend you keep your fuel tank as far forward as practical to counter balance the motors weight on the bracket. I recently installed a bracket on my 74 CC and believe the fuel tank ( 55 gals) should have been placed a couple feet further forward than where it currently is. My boat sits lower in the stern than what I would like, thus the need for a live well up front. |

I thought the 74 (75 for mine) had side tanks? |

I purchased the boat after the previous owner had already done much of the dirty work (enclosing the transom, re-doing the deck, installing the tank, building the pilot house etc...). Now, all I have to do is fix most of he already did :'( Kamikaze |

Kamakazi, I just checked out the pilothouse on yours. Pretty neat! How do you like it? What did he build it out of? Wood glassed over?

Re: 1972 V20 CC transom job more pics!!
Kamakazi I will be installing the tank Saturday, and it will be pretty far forward, as the filler will run through the forward deck and up through the gunnel deck port side- I may make a tru hull overflow above the water line. Here are the rough measurments- I know it's around 16" deep in the middle and that tank is 48" long- the width between stringers is 28" I'm 99% on all these #'s but I will double check Saturday, do you want the conture shape of the "V"? PS. what did you put on the bracket? I will be putting a Johnson 140 4 stroke it's about 415-425 lbs

You really want the vent as high as you are able to locate it and as large a piece of tubing to the vent. This is to allow the bubbles to pass. I have problems with my stock setup when filling after it is half full.

Good point! I will take that in to consideration when I install it, thanks!

Thank you, those are the numbers I was looking for. I'll make the bottom of the live well flat so I'm not worried about the angle of the keel. To answer your question I have 1984 235 Evinrude on mine, not sure of the weight but it's not light! I don't think you'll have any issue if you keep the tank in the area shown in the pic. My tank starts right under the forward seat of the console and runs 50 inches to the rear. Almost the opposite of what your showing. Stinky: Yes, the pilot house is just glass over wood and basically sits over the console. I like it a lot, but will need to make a enclosure so I can run longer in the fall when the temperature drops Kamikaze |
