That was the first thing I thought of!! |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

MJ they've jerked you around pretty good on this shipping thing. Hate to hear about yet another broken promise. That sucks.
I bet they don't do their high volume customers like that! Or they wouldn't stay in business. I guess they don't care that we are NOT recommending them to the 700+ members on this site who could very likely need something shipped at some point. At least you got the motor off and you are ready when they finally come through. Good luck! Wish I was closer to help you hang it. |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

P.S. The motor has a trim indicator on it. You should be able to hook that up to one of the guages. When they installed my new motor they didn't take it off and put it on the new one, so I just left it. You may or may not want to try to hook that up. Its pretty nice to not have to look back to see how the motor is trimmed.

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

Yea they have busted my balls real good on this!! I have told him so also!!
They no there will no biss from us thats for sure!!~ Yep I am ready!! Will have on with in a hour of its arrivel!! As for the trim indacator, I had one on my old also, they are per wired in so that tey work with your TAC, the tac shows oil level, tac, hour meter, and trim. I have to get a new one, as the old does not work on the new motor, They make adapter from the new tac to old motor, but none for old tac to new motor *>:( Thats ok I will get another, But CB is going to come and read the spec and see if we can't rewire the old tac to work for the set up?? Any way my hope is to be on the water for next week!! |

But I have them none Re: Motor Removal &

Ok I decided to get keep this all in one thread.
My friend pete came over and with him and my daughter we got the motor on the boat! Once again the camera is at the camper and had to use the cell phone, the pic's look like crap today!! :( O and my Daughter got her drivers Lic today!! Now I am in the trouble!! http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1526.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1527.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1528.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1529.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1530.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1531.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1532.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1542.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1543.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1544.jpg http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...14_06_1546.jpg |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

Just talked to CB he will be here tomorrow 9am and we will hopefully get things done??
After looking at the motor I have found that the wire harness is different The big round plug is the same but to 2 smaller plugs are different?? ______________________________________ BR also did this motor have the oil injection hooked up?? I noticed there is a linkage on that side ofm the motor disconected?? also one more thing, do you have the metal plate that holds the cables and wires down in the front of the motor?? has 2 screws, and goes on to hold all the wires and cables down and keeps the water out, its not there? ____________________________________________ Hope to be in the water tomorrow!! |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

MJ - Stick with premix. Oil injection is a ticking time bomb on older motors.
Get a piece of metal or rig up something with the screws, so that you can ZIP tie those cables together. My Bro just picked up 2 - 1991 250's and is going to part them out. I'll see if he can spare a metal piece if it will fit. |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

well the other Yamaha I had wouldn't run permix!! would foul the plugs every third trip?
	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

I'm with Bigshrimpin'...Pre-mix if at all possible...at any rate, glad to see ya got 'er hung again...
Whatever happened to your old 175?...will the lower-unit bolt up to this one and take care of that busted anti-cavitation plate?...just a thought :)...how'd the wiring work out?...is there an adapter for that?... |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

Well we got it all figured out as far as the wires are.
It was touch and go for awhile!! CB was just staring a big blank at the wires, but after a cold Sprite and a trip to the store for some connector's we were all set!! We have the wires run cables run and have disconnected the oil for now. But it will nmot run!! >:( It seems BR stiffed me with a bad starter!! ;) :D ;D I am going to ebay now to see if I can find one for cheap. You know if I new my old motor was going to whole sale I could have stole the stater befor they got it. |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

Hey man, sorry about the starter. It was slow starting the last time I cranked it...I thought you said you were going to keep your old starter just in case? We talked about that didn't we? :-/ ???
Your other question - yes, last it was ran the oil injection was hooked up and functional. The metal plate? Do you think that was maybe left on my boat when they took the motor off? I'm not sure I know exactly which plate you mean? Is it part of the motor or part of the wires on the boat? Looks good MJ! Keep me posted. I'm just getting back from a weekend with the misses, so sorry I didn't get back with you sooner. Let me know if you have any more questions. Blue |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

Nice MJ, I'm glad to see that things hangin' on the back of that "V". Goodness knows youv'e been through it trying to get that motor.

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

I am back for a day from the camper!
Yea no worry on the stater, I am looking into getting one today. Oil injection is disconnected?? Thats why I asked if it was working?? Metal plate in the one that goes on top of the wires and cable when they go thur the fron of the motor, you put it there to hold the water and stuff out, then you add the engin cover! Thanks I will keep all posted !! |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

If someone can post a pic of what this metal plate looks like I can check around the house for it.
Also, the oil injection was working fine when I had the motor removed. The previous owner had put a brand new oil tank on the boat, which I kept for the new motor. |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

I can live with out the metal plate.
CB and I will look at that linkage and see whats up?? Looks like it was taken off?? Thats why I did not think it workesd. Also has the wrong plugs in it?? I will put the right ones when I get it running. Hope to get a starter this week. Thanks BR!! |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

I did replace the but I used the same as the guy before me, so maybe he had the wrong ones in??
Can't wait till you fire it up! 8) |

BR - I think this is what MJ is talking about. MJ - my brother (in MA) just bought 2 1991 yamaha 250's (one is blown). He's gonna part them out. Both came with oil tanks . . . If BR can't locate the plate . . . I'll ask my bro if he'll hook you up. |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

BR didn't you use the same oil tank on your new motor so that wouldn't be with it right?
	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

The metal plate (probably aluminum) that MJ is referring to is a clamp of sorts that screws down around the shift and throttle cales as well as the wiring harness where it passes through the lower engine cowling. Then the engine cover fits down over everything.
	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

Yes CB is right, I have all the oil tanks and stuff so I am set there.
	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

Doesn't that metal plate hold throttle linkage in place??...w/ out that it won't stay put to work against the spring on the linkage... :P...
	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

No. There is a clamp inside the engine cowling to hold the cables in place. This clamp just keeps everything together as it passes through the lower cowling.
	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

Okay. So we don't have to keep tossing the issue of the "plate", "clamp", whatever you want to call it, here's a pic pointing to the item in question. ::)

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

That should have been with the motor. I never saw the front of the motor after the shop took it off because they layed it back down in the factory crate from the new motor.
What's up MJ, still looking for a starter? Throw a rope around that flywheel like a real man ;D |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

you don't have to use one of those just let the cables come out half the motors out their you see are missing them.
	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

We know it's not necessary. MJ just thought it'd be nice to have it. 8)
	 |

 Re: Motor Removal & Install

When I towed it to have the new motor put on, the piece was there. Pic confirms it. I'm sure they took it off when unhooking the controls, layed it down and proceeded to remove the engine.
