walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
I have a 1994 or 1992 yamaha 150 2 stroke oil injected. The thing does not like to idle low, it all seemed to start one day.
I was running fine for about 10 miles and I got some gas while out on the boat. This was the first time that the boat had every had the new ethonal mixed gas in the tank. I also added the walmart 2 stroke oil to the automatic oiling tank. I have burned up all the shore gas. But the walmart oil is still in the tank. I have used the walmart oil with no problems in my evinrudes are the yamahas more particular with their oil requirements? Also my battery is a little weak though I don't think that should matter if the motor is already running. The motor does not like to idle low, if I rev it up and throw it into gear it will run fine. Idling in Neutral it will cut every couple of mins regardless of how warm the engine gets. The carbs have been rebuilt and the compression was checked and reported as good. any one have any ideas? I hope I gave enough information Should I take all the oil out of my oil tank. The engine has a little over 800 hours on it. thanks |
Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
sounds like your throttle cable has stretched just adjust the throttle cable to idle the motor up a couple hundred RPM's at idle. you can do it in the yard on a hose.

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
how many rpm's should I idle at on a hose?
I think I am around 800 know. thanks |
Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
most of mine idle about 1000 to 1100 out of the water but once in water the motors idle about 750 to 900 and that's in neutral

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
Thanks for the quick response skools. I will adjust that rpm.
Do you think that I am fine running that walmart oil, I read in other place that is it made by penzoil. thanks |
Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
10 years ago when I had a 25 Grady with twin 200 Evinrudes, I went through a LOT of walmart oil. The Walmart oil was Mercury Quicksilver then, don't know now, but I'm sure its made by someone big to supply Walmart.

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
yeah it's Penzoil now, that's all i run but i run a little more oil in my mix than they call for to much oil won't kill as quick as to little. to much just slows you down a little bit but makes the motor last forever.

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
deshet,
When you want to get rid of that crappy Yamaha I know a guy selling a 150 Merc that runs like a scalded dawg. |
Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
skools, I use the Penz. synthetic blend 25% syn. and 75% reg oil....is that a good product?? 92 150 Johnson Oceanrunner

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
I agree with Skools, however I would adjust the idle while shes in the water because the motor needs the back pressure to accurately adjust the idle.

I thought about contacting you about the mecury that you have for sale. It looks clean. I really don't want to repower just yet but if I do I really want a 4 stroke let me know if you need to get rid of that johnson/suzuki. What area are you in if I get desprate? thanks |
Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
I had this same problem with my grandfathers pontoon boat. It has an 85HP SUZUKI that is oil injected. YAMAHA uses the same basic oil injection pump that SUZUKI uses. But the PENNZOIL oil was thinner than the SUZUKI oil that the pump was calibrated for, and it was pumping almost twice as much oil as it did with the SUZUKI oil. The MIKUNI pump is VERY particular of what oil you put in it. Switched back to SUZUKI oil(which in bulk is about the same as PENNZOIL at WAL-MART). Drained the oil tank and refilled it with the fresh SUZUKI oil, purged the air from the lines. And took it out and ran it for 30 minutes on the lake and it has run great since. I run the PENNZOIL in my eVINRUDE premixing, but it didn't work with the oil injection system.

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
if you want the best get Klotz Syn. Oil that's what us Standup jetski racers run. it's around $64.00 a gallon but the pen syn is good chit

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
affermative on the Penz. Skools, thanks......I'll pass on the Klutz, 64.00 a gallon? wow!

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
The PENNZOIL has served me well. I lost 2 engines on JOHNSON 2-stroke oil, but the PENNZOIL works well. The only issue I've had with it was on oil injected engines.

As for the Johnzuki, the cylinder walls will wear through before I get rid of it. I loves me some 4 stroke Johnzuki! |

Plugs? When was the last time you replaced the plugs . . . might be time to put in a fresh set and make sure that you gap them properly.

Re: walmart 2 stroke oil in 150 yamaha
You mentioned its the first time that you have used E10 treated gas. This stuff will mix with any water in your tank and if you had water in the tank (which most boat do) that could be your problem. Do you have a good water seperator on the boat and have you change it latley. From what I've heard allot of boaters will have to change their filter several times while the gas is mixing with the water and while its leaving the tank. I have one with a clear bowl which I had to drain several times and even replaced the filter twice. It now seems fine and I have seen no other problems.
