Throttle Adjustment I Think?
I have a 1994 Johnson 150 and when it is in neutral I cannot start the motor as the safty switch must think it is in gear. I have to bump the throttle foward some then it will start just fine. Is this an adjustment on the motor or is it a kill switch in the throttle box mounted on the CC which is causing the problem.

Re: Throttle Adjustment I Think?
If I'm not mistaken the problem is in the control box.

Re: Throttle Adjustment I Think?
OMC put the switch in the control box. There should be 2 yellow wires coming out of it for the neutral safety switch.

Stillrunning:
Try adjusting the shift cable at the motor. You maybe able to get enough adjustment so that the motor is still in neutral when the control is in the postion where the switch works. Are your cables older? They can stretch over time. I don't think there is any adjustment to the location of the switch in the control box though. If I remeber right the switch is held in place by two bolts that don't allow for any adjustment in the switch postion. But it's been a while since I ripped one apart! Beside its much easier to tinker back at the motor then to disassemble the control box. kamikaze |
Re: Throttle Adjustment I Think?
Kam's right. The only adjustment is at the motor. Before you start rotating the adjustment be sure and measure or mark where it is located, if that don't work it out to get back to where it was to begin with.
The ones I have seen doing that was just years of use and abuse or corrosion on the control box. |
