Hammer's Project V
Ok, well this is what is done so far guys. I was a bit inpatient waiting on my friends soda blasting machine, so I had the local crackhead at the boat yard sand blast
the hull. He did a good job, but sand blasting really can ding up the hull. I first used a gallon of Petit barrier coat and didnt like the results. The paint goes on nice, but to thin. So I went out and picked up another gallon of barrier coat, but went back to Interlux 2000E. Works much better, goes on thicker hiding any imperfectinons from the sand blasting. Its still a quick flip V, but I want the work done right before I sell it. I want a smooth and perfect bottom. 30 years of bottom paint. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02971.jpg Bottom sand blasted. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02972.jpg First coat of Petit Barrier coat. Looks good in the picture, but I seen some spots that I wasnt happy with. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02973.jpg Not happy with the results of Petit barrier coating. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02974.jpg Went out and bought Interlux 2000E barrier coating and applied same. Also filled in some pitting from the sand blasting. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02975.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02976.jpg Filling in some more pitting from the sand blasting, that the Petit barrier coating was suposed to fill in, but didnt. So I filled in the pits, but also adding in the 200E Interlux that works much better. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02977.jpg |
Re: Hammer's Project V
Well, thats what Ive been doing for the last few days.
Didnt even get a chance to take my real V out. :-[ Totl cost over the weekend: Sand blasting. $100.00 Petit barrier coating: $70.00 Interlux Barrier coat. $70.00 Misc. mixing pale, gloves, $10.00 3MM body filler $25.00 Total $275.00 :-/ :'( I hope I get this cash back when it sells. |
Re: Hammer's Project V
$275! Heck you got off cheap!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could have gotten the V blasted for $100, I would have done it years ago!
Looking good there! ;) |
Re: Hammer's Project V
She would look alot better with a bow rail. Hint...Hint. ::)
Gotta decide if I should just compound and wax the sides or wait and paint maybe. Already have the boot strip and new Wellcraft decals. ??? ??? |
Re: Hammer's Project V
You are doing good Mike, and you are learning to, that is going to be worth a lot more than what you sell the V for ;)
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
Will have the bottom paint on in the moring. Gonna do a quick sand then finally get the bottom done, then decide if i should boot stripe and decal it or wait and paint the sides.
I did get teh bottom paint for free from a fellow boater. Some type of Interlux brand. Priced at 199.99. So I did save money there. |
Re: Hammer's Project V
Feels good at times saving a V from the land fill. ;)
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
looks great hammer, really doing a great job ;)
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
She will look better once teh bottom paint is on. Once teh hull is done, I guess I gotta move onto redoing teh fuel hatch cover.
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
Hammer it is looking great!!!
Good for you in not taking any short cuts and rushing it!! |
Re: Hammer's Project V
Nice job Hammer.

Re: Hammer's Project V
Got off from work at 6am and went straight to work on the V. Finished sanding and put on the bottom paint. Will move the jacks and touch up and teh bottom will be dry. Not sure if I should put on the boot stripe and Welcraft decals or paint the side. The sides are chaulky, but I brought the shine back in on one spot with some compound.
Ok, Off to bed. *;) http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02978.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02979.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02980.jpg |
Re: Hammer's Project V
Pretty work, my man, pretty work...

Re: Hammer's Project V
I still think you should keep this one and sell yours! Then you know you are all set for years to come! ;)
|
Re: Hammer's Project V

Maybe next year I'll blast and paint my bottom. |

Re: Hammer's Project V
Hammer, When she going up for sale ???
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
I missed the pictures you added, it looks great. I would buff the sides. Paint will be more money and I think prospective buyers rather see orignal gelcoat.
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
i agree with Mulv ;)
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
Guess it will be for sale after I replace the fuel hatch cover and the soft spot in the deck. Last few V's for sale didnt go for to much. :-/

Re: Hammer's Project V
it looks great .... keep up the good work :D ;)

Re: Hammer's Project V
Gonna be a nice v when you get done.
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
;D Hey Blue, my project would sure look alot nicer with a bench seat. ;D ;D
|
Re: Hammer's Project V
I'll trade you the bench seat for your V w/ enclosure and you can just keep the project V and have my bench.
;D |

Re: Hammer's Project V
I'd give you $583.00 for it, if it had a hard top.

Re: Hammer's Project V
Gotta friend who does boat work for a living. Gonna do a professional wet sand compound job on the hull and see if we can bring the shine back on her. Has some sort of stuff that you apply to the hull with a paint brush. Lightly sand, then compound out ? ???
Interested to see how it looks. ;) Guess I'll be doing that this weekend. If it comes out nice, I will boot stripe it then put on the new Wellcraft decals. |
Re: Hammer's Project V
Let us know! How Hard, How much, what it looks like??
I have to do the new boat! ;) |
Re: Hammer's Project V
Will do. I was give some free 3mm compond and wax and he said, I have the $hit that will work. We shall soon see. If it works, any extra, I'll mail up to ya. ;)
