Re: New Project
Thanks T. *;)
Well, as I said, with all this rain, I decided to work on something else. Yanked out the fuel hatch cover and started tearing out the soaked 30 year old wood. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03056.jpg The wood just fell out, making things really easy. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03057.jpg Almost cleaned up. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03058.jpg Ok, here is where some of you might bust on me. I had wood left over from the transom, so instead of one solid piece, I added in pieces. Figured if all those small pieces last 30 years, 5 pieces will last just as long. PLUS, I didnt want to spend more $$ on a sheet and get stuck with more leftover wood. Still believe the strenght is in the cloth and resin, not the wood. Guess we shall see soon enough. ;) http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03059.jpg |
Re: New Project
Me thinks you'll be just fine Hammer. Maybe an extra layer of glass just in case, but it'll do. It's a shame that you'll never be able to afford to sell this boat ;D
|
Re: New Project
Can't help myself. If your replacing wood, why are you putting wood back?
I know the industry hasen't provided us with an economical alternative but it just drives me crazy to fix an old problem with a new problem. Keep us posted hammer, that is the only appropriate measure. AND IT LOOKS GOOD. |
Re: New Project
Thanks guys. ;)
Still need to sand the wood and ruff her up a bit. Hoping to resin on Saturday. Using car batteries for weight while she sets up. 8) |
Re: New Project
Now thats what I am talking about!! You are selling it!! It will last as long as you needed for the sale!
I am sure for many years! But this is what you have too do to keep the cost down!! Well you will have a new career after you retire from the donut tasting force!! ;) NOw I know why skools is leaving the site, he scared you going to show him up! LOL ;D |
Re: New Project
LOL. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
|
Re: New Project
looks good hammer whens the bidding begin ;D ;D
|
Re: New Project
Gotta paint, fill more holes, get a bow rail. Looks like that Johnson 225 is going on as well. ;D
That means steering cable, helm, battery, bilge. Wont it ever stop. :-[ ;D |
Re: New Project
That's the way you do it.
Don't think it'll be easier and look better without the bowrail? More hole filling yes, but ??? |
Re: New Project
Gotta have a bow rail. Need some chrome hanging off the front. ;D
|
Re: New Project
While your at it, see if Stink can supply the coon tail.
Oh ctt I'm sure can supply the fuzzy dice! ;D |
Re: New Project
LOL. Won this on E-Bay for only 99 cents. ;D
Super thick and strong, but will suck up alot of West System. :o 2ft short though, gotta pull out my scraps. Get done work in 55 minutes, then its back to work on the hatch cover. 8) http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03060.jpg |
Re: New Project
Well, I hit the wood with a grinder to get a good bond and went to town with th eWest System this morning. Have just about anything heavy I could find with weight to stack on top of the hatch cover.
Cure time is 8 hours. Wondering if I should let it set longer or not ??? Know a few guys had problems with bonding. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03061.jpg |
Re: New Project
i like that you are still charging the battery while using it for weight, call it "shop multitasking"
|
Re: New Project
let sit over night thats more the 8 hours!!
The guys with the bonding problem did not use enough epoxy from what I remeber |
Re: New Project
A few pics. for the Monday morning pix. Ho's here. *;D
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03062.jpg Well. I added three layers of glass along the outside corners and two layers on top. As you can see, I had an extra piece of wood and decided to double her up. She turned out "Super Strong" !!. ;) http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03063.jpg Cleaned it up with a quick coat of primer. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03064.jpg Didnt do to much fine tuning, quick sand job and some left over primer. Quick primer job on the topside as well. Didnt cut the hole out. Might wait, in case I decide to relocate the tanks. The tank location on these early years really suck. Dont understand why you have access to only half the tank, while the other half is under the deck that cause's a soft stop due no support. >:( http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03065.jpg |
Re: New Project
Looks good, what no access hole no more? ;D
|
Re: New Project
Might move the tank forward, causing me to move the access hole. But that involves cutting out the ....bulk head..I think you call it and moving it forward and reglassing it in.
Need to inpect the tank and then decide. The foam is soaked, so i might be doing that today. It gets me out of wet sanding the hull. That jobs sucks. :( |
Re: New Project
Glass over it, if you need to access the area, chances are you got to remove the hatch anyway.
|
Re: New Project
I agree. ;D
|
Re: New Project
I hope it fits. ??? ???
|
Re: New Project
Looks good!!
Did you ck before adding the extra wood for clearance?? I would not move tank forward!! Cuddy are bow heavy as it it, adding more weight to the front will make it slam more then it already does!! CC are a different story! Less weight up front and the driver is positioned further back to keep bow light. Pull tank get rid of all the wet foam and reinstall in the same place. ;) |
Re: New Project
Oh...didnt know that. Heard some past talk about tank locations. Well I guess it will stay where it is. Thanks. *;)
Didnt measure, I eyed it up. Wondering about my clearance for the fuel intaje. :-X :-/ :o :o :o |
Re: New Project
Nice job...good luck on the clearance! That's crucial :-/
|
Re: New Project
As for replacing with wood, it will give someone else a project to do in twenty years. Good job! Billy Mac ;D
|
Re: New Project

Re: New Project

The hatch fits, even with teh extra sheet of wood. ;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03066.jpg What a waiste of space. >:( Gonna be yanking out old foam in the days to comes. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC03067.jpg |
