Pettit Easypoxy
Well, my V still isnt painted yet. Keep hearing excuses.
Did aliitle more wet sanding on the V today and I hate it. To much work on the arms. Its like carrying two dozen of dontuts. ;D Anybody ever work with Pettit Easypoxy paint ??? ??? Its a one part paint, so I guess it isnt as good as awlgrip being a two part paint. Its cheaper to. Think we need a "HAMMERS" Painting party, since we all know I HATE PAINTING !!. ;D |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Yep. Ive used it on my 16ft.Carolina wooden boat and it holds up really good. Its been on there about 5-6 years, and no cracking or peeling yet. I havent tried it on glass.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
I would try to stick to two part paints, awlgrip, or interlux perfection even. I sprayed the awlcraft 2000, it was nice to work with and is somewhat forgiving in that it is buffable and you can "spot" in repairs. The regular awlgrip is nice but tougher to work with if your not set up for it. Its also less forgiving if you screw it up. If your gonna spend the time prepping and painting I think its best to use the most durable stuff you can. If your just painting to sell it then latex works great ;) . Im no expert, just my .2 cents.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
call earl shibe an boat any color even pink lol

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
You should consider the Devoe 379 two part paint. I use it at work and painted my topside with it. Hold up great, nice shine and pretty affordable.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Did you spray or roll ???, that paint job you did looks great !!
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
I sprayed it Hammer, right in my side yard. :o
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Looks fantastic Shicks , Id like ta paint my topside also!
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
So how much ????, didnt see a price . ???
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
It's hard to say, it's been awhile. I'm thinking it was something like $50.00 for a gallon. I got it from the ICI paint store. Awlgrip is like $250.00 a gallon.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
My buddy is suposed to paint my V with awlgrip, but has been delayed on other projects. Awlgrip to buy myself is way to much. I seen it listed at that same price. Todays a great day to paint. :-/ :'( :'( :'(

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Hammer,
You couldn't go wrong with Alwgrip. If my remember correctly, this Devoe paint I recommened is similar to the Awlcraft 2000, a 2 part polyuerethane, The "original" Awlgrip is a polyester base, very durable but harder to apply and/or repair. What price are you talking about seeing the Awlgrip? I really believe in this paint I recommened, belive me, for as much work as I put into my topside................I sure wouldn't have put some cheap stuff on it. You should at least see what it would cost you. |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Local boat store down the street sells the Awlgrip white for $200.00 a gallon, awlgrip Primer, $189.00 a gallon.
Then I need to buy the converter so I can spray. So with prices like that, I said no way. But then my buddy was suposed to paint a boat with awlgrip and do mine at the same time. But its been a month and still nothing. With teh colder weather coming, I'm running out of time. *;D Checked out your gallery. u need to update so we can see what the V looks like now. *;) |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Oh yeah, did you have to primer the top side as well ???
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Youre right, I really need to get that gallery straight. Here's a couple more. I will probably be away from the computer for a couple of days. Check out that Devoe Hammer. I had to prime also, I used the Devoe 201 epoxy primer that ICI recomended. It was preety inexpensive. Heres the link for the primer.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Sux that you cant order direct from them. Gotta find a paint store that sells this paint. If te price is right, I'm gonna go with it I guess.
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Hammer just call the company and ask who sells in your area they will tell you! ;)
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
No number listed for the company. Can only email them questions, wich I did twice. Hope to hear something from them on Monday.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Hammer,
This looks like this might be the closest dealer to you from Lewes, Del. 107 8th Street Ocean City, MD 21842 (410) 289-5203 http://www.iciduluxpaints.com/storel...LocateStore.do |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Yep, found that online as well. Gonna call them Monday.
Thanks man. Hey...after you primered, did you need to sand ?? wet sand ?? light sand to get the over spray off I guess. |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
I Don't think you have to sand after the prime coat, But................You will be amazed at the difference in finish if you do. All that surface texture kind of adds up and gives you that "orange peel" finish. Wet sand with some 220-300 grit.
Are you painting the hull and topside? |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Yeah, thinking of doing the hull and topside even though I can get a bit of a shine back in the hull though. Just not as nice as I want it to be.
Hoping the price of te paint isnt like Awlgrip either. Still cant believe the shine on your V. The top side looks great !!. No runs ? Wanna get the paint on before its to cold out. |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
it's not the paint but the painter controlling the runs lol
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Hammer, don't forget, you also need to buy the converter for the paint, AKA part B
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
shicks007
Did you use it on the floor also? I need to fix a place in my floor and what's holding me up is I can't pull the trigger to cut the floor because I want to be able to cover the repair area. Doesn't have to cover the repaired area in the floor but I want it to not raise a flag as soon as you loo in the boat. |

But yes I did use it on the deck. I used the same paint (rolled it) with Interlux Intergrip additive on the non-skid areas(bow, gunwhales and cockpit deck). It has held up O.K. I would do it the same way over again. http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...-Skid+Additive http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...lingcracks.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...pitnonskid.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...tbdnonskid.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...Bownonskid.jpg |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Is the converter the hardner or is the converter the stuff so you can spray ??? ???
WOW, super great Pics. ;D Hoping to cut a section of the deck out today and repair. Was suposed to call the DOver store today and see if they had it in stock, but was held up on F.O.P. contract talks all day. :-/ Been shopping around on E-Bay for a spray gun. What Spray gun did you use or what spray tip. ??? |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
If you have a harbor fright store near you they have some good prices on spray guns
|
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
Not sure on what spray tip I should use. ??? :-/
Called today, they have the paint and primer in stock. 50 bucks a gallon, plus the converter/hardner. |
Re: Pettit Easypoxy
I used a standard siphon feed cup gun I borrowed from work, similar to this style. Ours is a Binks model 18
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...70_22130_22130 I'm not sure about the tip. Although I have'nt used one....I'm sure one of those HVLP (high volume low pressure) guns would probably work better. You will get a good feel for spraying with the primer, if you have any issues, no worries, it sands very easy like automotive primer. You will also need to get some thinner for spraying and clean-up. Were you pleased with the price of that Devoe paint?........sounds pretty good to me. Here's a thought for you. Get whatever white you want for the topsides, paint it. You should have enough paint left to take the remainder back to them and have them put a little color tint in it (yellow, blue, whatever) and spray some color on the hull if you want. |
