Best wax? I should be done with the compounding of my hull this weekend and will hopefully be moving on to the wax. Anyone have any recommendations for a really good marine wax? I know they make this Teflon stuff now, and I used to use caranuba. Any thoughts on what works best? |

Re: Best wax? I used to use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze -- the only reason I can cite the exact name is I have an old bottle of it in a box of boat stuff in my office! ::) I thought it did a pretty good job. Now that I have awlgrip I don't have to mess with the wax anymore. ;D |

Re: Best wax? Buckley - Collonites Fleetwax is my choice. It will hold up all season. Second choice is Meguires gold class. MJ is a secret closet waxer. ;D |

Re: Best wax? My, how this thread deteriorated. ::) |

Re: Best wax? It's easy around here. ;) The Meguiar's and Colonite are both excellent choices. You can also try the 3M Fiberglass Cleaner/Wax. It has a very mild compound in it to clean up oxidized surfaces. |

Re: Best wax? In my years of boating and automotive experience I have tried and tested many wax and finish care compounds...after years of extensive testing using blind and double blind techniques the obvious choice or waxes is ..........one that somebody else applies for you ;) |

Re: Best wax? I use this method on the V20 and my other bay boat. First, apply Stain Away to the area. This caustic formula can be sprayed on and just wipe off the area. Pay attention to those old stains as they may now dissapear. This process opens the pores of the boat. Next, use Johnson liquid floor wax to seal in the clean boat. The floor wax can be wiped on with a towel. Use 2-3 coats of wax depending on how long you want to go without waxing again. This wax dries in about 5-10 minutes, so you can just keep going until you are finished the whole boat. I do this on both the interior and exterior of the boats. This method was taught to us by the owner of the marina here in SE Louisiana. |

Re: Best wax? Trout, That sounds like a great idea for older gelcoat!! I may try it and report back so MJ can use it too. ;D ;D |

Re: Best wax? I have a bumpr sticker that says don't wash this boat!! It may fall apart! When someone comes up with a real easy way to get rid of all 30 layers of bottom paint, I might think about waxing! |

Re: Best wax? I have owned my v20 since mid april and today was the first time that I waxed her. Well let me tell ya, you've gotta be somewhat of a contorsionist to wax out that bow. I'm doing a limbo sorta thing, I'm upside down,I'm lefty,I'm righty, hanging on the bow rail w/ one hand, buffing rag in the other. The end result is that I'm a happy man,it looks nice |

Re: Best wax? LOL Phester! I've waxed one and it does take all of the limbs working together to do it properly! |
|
Re: Best wax? just try the Johnson Floor Wax ;) |
|
Re: Best wax? Don't use house hold floor wax's lol that is a water soluble wax it will come off the first rain or trip to the water you take. 3M Marine Cleaner wax is easy to use with a automotive polisher and seems to last about 4 months with one coat about 10 with 2 coats. |

Re: Best wax? I'd like to try that 3M...I saw it at West Marine[I dont care much for that store] and for 16.00-17.00$ I figured I'd finish what I already had. I will try that 3M next.Thanx |
