Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
I am not trying to argue cuddy vs cc and which is better. I think we all have different needs for our boats to perform in the conditions we mostly fish in. We have already had that thread on here and that is not what this is about. This is about the ride difference
(if there is any) between the two. I have a buddy who I just met a little while ago and he currently has a V20 center console. I told him I had the cuddy and he said his brother does as well. He also state that the cuddy rode like crap compared to his center console. ??? Do any of yall have experience comparing the ride between the two? The only thing I can figure out that might justify such a thought is the fact that the cuddy "console" is farther forward in the boat and you feel the bumps slightly more. They are the same freaking hull correct?!?!?! :P What are yalls thoughts? |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
I have a cuddy and CB had the CC, I belive that the CC does ride much better!!
Cuddy has to much weight up front and slams down faster and harder!! But I love the cuddy!! Thats why I would really like to get a ride in a dual console, Its the best of both worlds and I bet that it would ride more like the CC?? Yes the same hull, and both take a beating and handle big water for what it is!! So it all depends what you7 want and were you fish. |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Stink - mac
You're both right .... Think of the physics ... In a CC you stand/sit easily 4 feet (or more) futher aft. Probably very near the center of gravity (CG) of the boat. (the point about which it pivots - a fulcrum on a see-saw) In the cuddy - you are forward of the CG ... so you go up and down more. Also - there nothing up forward on on CC - yeah it's light up there and it does not come down as hard on the waves as the cuddy with the extra fiberglas, and windshield, and all the stuff in the cuddy - Also - these Deep-Vee hulls ride on their a$$, The bow always comes up. and when they go thru wave - in a cuddy you go up and down more. Now as to which is better - as you say - it is a matter of choice - and your needs. Sure the CC is nice - in June - but not in November!!! - It is ciovered up by then ! The Cuddy, with a top and side curtains gives a whole lot more protection !! And having a locking cabin sure is a nice to have - not mention a place for mama and and cedar bucket! My kids keep bustin me about - why do have to have a boat without a cabin? !!! ...so having had a V20 CC, and several Bertram Mopies and Bahia Mars - that 's my $0.02 woth ... CBill |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
I agree but would add this, for me it is a lot about comfort overall, I've been beaten up on all kinds of boats but having a full windshield or a full windshield and an enclosure makes a boat very dry and comfortable, not just in November but all summer to when the afternoon winds pick up and the spray is flying. The cuddy for storage and privy use if needed is a valuable thing and again adds to comfort

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Willy what you just said is EXACTLY why I got the cuddy. I was/am so sick of being blasted with water in my 18cc, of course it is only an 18. ::)
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
You'd get it in a 23 footer too, I know ;)

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Your right Tin and if I had kept a center console that is what I would have done. I like to be able to talk in a reasonable voice on plane, keep the bulk of the wind and or spray off me, and I like to have the fishermen or family or super models be able to be comfortable too.
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
The cuddy with enclosure is nice while underway. I'm able to talk to friends and family or on the VHF like I'm sitting still.
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
To be honest Blue one of the main reason I like the V20's is the comfort especially with an enclosure. To be honest I would really like an old style cabin cruiser in the 25-29 foot range. Been on them a couple of times in my younger days. Comfortable, lot of storage, lot of fishing room. Rack system for exerciising super models if needed or just take a nap. ;)
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Willy, why don't you buy us one? ;D I promise to keep you and your models company on those long boring days offshore fighting those pesky tuna, dolphin, and wahoo. ;D I think you should go on up to about a 38fter though ;) I buy the slip, you buy the boat - deal?
Oh yeah, hope you don't mind if the boat stays in NC ;D |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Blue we need a summer base and a winter base, summers here in Raritan Bay and winters we look from you south. That is doable
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
The V-20 is still adequate for excersing the supermodels. Just got to be a little creative with the exercise program. ;D ;D

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Still like the cuddy for storing all the kid toys and fishing gear. I can talk the kids into going out on the lake if it looks like rain. They like to play inside.

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Slot I find when your in the mood for two at a time that V20 bunk arrangement is a little limiting. I make do but would like to be able to stretch out once in a while

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Willy, don't hold the fact that you are too tall against Wellcraft! BTW - when I'm on a V20 I limit my appetite to petite models only.
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Petite is sweet ;D
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
How about this............Modify a V-20 cuddy into a Fwd cuddy CC. This is a pic of a Dusky.

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Shicks, that IS a nice set-up...like that idea...and the way he did it...
And Willy now we really know why you harken back to the old Cabin-Cruiser days...plenty of SM Exercise space...keeps 'em in top form... 8)... |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
I like to stay limber, do cushioned push ups, pelvic plunges etc. keeps me young, makes life interesting. 8)
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
S&M exercise space ??? I do hope you mean super models and not whips chains and norton clamps ::)
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Super model of course, got to find an economical old style 25-28 cabin cruiser. Was that like a delayed reaction Mirage :o
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
There's a reason why cc owners install dodgers on their boats. It ain't to get out of the sun.
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Yea I don't care what MJ says there's only so much Fulking you can do, with a super model fishing with you before your mind wanders 8) and that cuddy becomes muy importante

Willy, if you don't care too much about speed you should consider a Down East style boat, very seaworthy, economical, nice cockpit for fishing....and a cabin for the SM's! Ever hear of Sisu's? They make a nice 22' semi-displacement with a keel, trailerable too, single diesel or a moderate size OB. I love those boats. They make a nice 26' too. |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Here's one style a 22' bass boat:
http://yachtworld.com/core/listing/p...oat_id=1411175 Here's the 22' Sisu lobster boat style, not a great example but you can see the keel: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/Mnutz/sisu.jpg |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Here's one to keep the SM's nice and dry (not sure if that is a good thing???)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/Mnutz/sisu2.jpg |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
This one's you, Willy! A 26' Sisu. You could even go down below and make some eggs for the SM's. I'd love to keep this boat in a slip out here.

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
I really like that 22'
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Steigercraft just came out with a 21' Deep Vee this year
Block Island model: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1DVBlkIsnd.jpg Cheseapeake/Miami model: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...teiger21dv.jpg http://steigercraft.com/main/docs/currentmodels.cfm |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
I just love that style boat, seen the Sisu's before, don't know much about them. And why do they call them a bass boat? Any idea what the draft is on their boats. And what they cruise at Tin. You ever been on them at sea?
And that Steiger Craft is phenominal but way to costly for me. |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
And you are right Tin, if I lived on the water something like that 26 footer would be floating at my dock. But I am not crazy about the semi displacement hull. I'm not a speed boater but I'm not sure I want to spend my day getting to the fishing grounds and back. Cruising at 12-15 knots would actually be a nice comfortable ride and I guess if I lived on the water might be ok but I'm used to the trailer and getting there and launching and retrieving and driving back and all the time that takes. I really need to slow down huh?
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Willy
If you ever get your hands on a Sisu 22 or 26 grab it. I hear they are great boats and great hulls - although I have never had one. Look up north (MA) etc. - Bill C |
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Willy, did you click on the links to see the rest of the pics?
It says the 26 draft is 3' and the 22' draft is 1'5"(not sure if that is right) I've never been on one, although the guy that runs the tackle shop went and looked at one andmay be buying it so maybe I'll get a chance to to fish it and see. I think I could deal with lower speeds seeing how economical and seaworthy they are. I saw an ad for a 22' with a Suzuki 115 four stroke for $10,500 and I can't remember where >:( |

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
another favorite of mine is the Groverbuilt, built by Al Grover on Long Island, very solidly built and seaworhty. There's a 24,26 and 28.
Here's a 26: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/Mnutz/grover.jpg http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/8/9/80660889.htm |

Here's a shot of a Groverbuilt 26 crossing the Atlantic in 1985!

Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Neat looking boats, is it me or is the freeboard awfully low especially amidship
|
Re: Cuddy VS Center Console ride quality....
Freeboard is kind of low but it's a proven hull. If you like it and want to learn more, here's a thread from another forum with 49 pages!
