Vehicle to tow 1983 V20 with Yam 175

Anybody know the approximate weight of a 1983 V20 with a Yamaha 175 on a tandem trailer?
Can you pull it with a six cylinder van or do you need a V8 powered vehicle. Need to tow it about twenty miles to get some service done and I'm going to have ask friends or family to tow it for me. (I've got 4 cyl. vehicles)
Really appreciate any input.

You can but check the max towing capacity for the vehicle. I personally wouldn't want to tow with anything but V8.

Good luck!

I used to tow mine short distances with my V-6 4Runner. I should think you'll be okay IF you take it easy, don't expect any quick accelerations, and allow lots of room for stopping. But I wouldn't make a habit of it.

I agree w/ the guys above ...a short trip like that won't hurt anything unless the shop is on top of a mountain...I'm fairly familiar w/ GA, but where is Richmond Hill?...

Mine; boat, motor and tandem trailer weighs in at 4700lbs...

Thanks everybody.
Richmond Hill is just south of Savannah.
I'll probably ask a friend that has a Ford F-150 to tow it for me.

Down in the coastal flatlands, a 6 wouldn't have any probs, but a buddy w/ an F150 sho would be handy ;) ...

You can tell ford country ain't where they from. *;D
Full sized pu and even V6 will do it. You ain't talking about 3000lbs max.
Well maybe 3500.

'78 cuddy with V-8 I/O dry weight is 2650 lbs, 1000 lbs for the trailer, full tank o gas, and I'm right around 4K. Yours will be lighter with the OB, but you'll be in the ball park at 3500 lbs. Towing isn't the problem, that's the easy part, it's the stopping that will get you in trouble. Check the tow vehicle's tow capacity, and DO NOT exceed it, actually, you don't want to go past 80% to be safe. My wife's 96 Explorer with 4.0 V-6 is only rated at 4250 lbs, no way I would risk that. It's really up to you, but find a buddy with an F-150 or a Dodge Ram. I'd push it before letting a Chevy tow it ;D

C'mon Ford guys, don't let these yahoos get away with that.

This forum is so great.
My Dad passed away in 2001 ( he and I bought this boat in 1985) but he would proud of the forum and the owners of V20's here.
Y'all take care and God bless.

Welcome KELLER,

I tow mine with a Honda Pilot. It's a V-6 and does it very nicely.

If you have access to a moped, that should work as good as the F-150.

Where are those F-O-R-D boys anyway?

Awww, man, with all the bad crap going on in the world, can't we just get past the Ford-Chebbie-Dodge-Ricer stuff? Let's just agree to disagree on vehicle preference and revel in the light that is V20. ;)
