OK any one running a older OMC 150 hp ,on a 1983 v cuddy what prop should I run I will have a kicker motor for trolling the motor is a 1991

15.5 X 17 ALUMINUM should work for that set-up, or get ya real close.

17 is what most run with great performance.

But I carryed a lot of weight in my V I use to have a 15 1/4 X 15 it was a good all around prop. I lost a bit on the top end but that was ok for me.

I got a 14x19SS and the motor only gets to 5100rpm, it should turn 5500. Good part is the boat will go 42mph.
I need to change to one of them listed.

perch, my boat came w/a 15 1/4x15 [150 Johnson] all around good prop. I wanted a spare so I grabbed a 15x17. Not a MAJOR difference but I did like it better. Still very good outta the hole and gained a bit on the top end.

Did you take a look in prop survey posts a few threads down?

The main thing is you do not want to lug the motor, otherwise it will die a premature death. Try to prop it to run 5300-5500RPM's WOT. More RPM's are O.K, as long as you don't run it at those higher RPM's. WOT below 5100 is lugging. It will perform best at all RPM's, and have the longest trouble free life, when it is properly setup at WOT RPM's.

With a 19 pitch on that motor, in our V's, you will be pushing things close to lugging. For that motor on a V, a 17 pitch is best all around, followed closely by a 15 pitch as second best choice, and last choice would be a 19 pitch.

SS will usually give you a couple hundred more RPM's than alum, (in most cases), but other things like cupping factor in that can change all that.

Here, an OMC 15x17 SST II runs 5300 to 5400 RPM WOT, at around 43MPH.

EDIT: Just confirmed numbers, and my mistake. I used earlier years. For 1991, 5700 - 6000RPM is desired WOT. You will be lugging that motor by using a 19" pitch. Might need to go with a 15" to get the RPM's up there. Wait until you get motor and test it yourself. If it then runs less than 5500RPM, you should re-prop. I think the general rule is 2" smaller pitch change equals 400 RPM WOT increase?.?

not all true an aluminum will turn higher rpms it's lighter to turn and i'm turning a 14 1/2 x 19 on mine 6100 WOT and a 15 x 17 will turn 6200 no big difference those are the same prop for the most part due to the size. the 14 1/2 bites less water than the 15 inch prop. all mine are Stainless too

oh and if you want to you can turn a 14 x 22 Stainless just as long as the prop has hole shot holes drilled in it at each blade. they will add almost 300 rpms on top but will slow ya a little on the same prop say you have one without holes and it turns 5700 rpm at 50 mph and you drill it with 1/2 to 5/8 holes then it will turn 6000 to 6100 with better hole shot but will only get you about 46 mph.

with the correct hub some Merc props will fit so will some Yamaha Mercury makes some of the best props out there and Yamaha is a close second.

The newer MERCURY props use the exchangeable hub system. One prop fits many engines, you just use the correct hub kit to fit it. I believe MERCURY started using it in 95 or 98. Most of MICHIGAN's props also use the new XHS system as well. Use the MERCURY hub kit's though, they come with all of the hardware you'll need to install the prop whereas MICVHIGAN only gives you the minimum to install it. And MERCURY has some really nice props out now.

I've never put one on . . . but I know Merc has an OMC FloTorq-II hub kit . . . so it'll fit. You can contact any of the merc prop dealers and they'll tell you exactly what you need.
EBay/craigslist are great places to pickup a prop.

Just b/c a prop is stainless and the same pitch as an aluminum prop . . . don't mean nuttin. I ran a Brand New Michigan rapture 17pitch stainless on my merc 225 and could only hit 42mph (same boat, same day) I swapped with a banged up stock yamaha aluminum 19pitch gained 300rpm and the boat hit 48.5mph.

There is so much difference b/w the shapes, rake, blade area, thickness, etc . . . You really have to play around with a few to find the right one for your boat. Before you start messing around with props . . . make sure you have your motor height optimized. The cavitation plate up a one or two inches from the bottom running surface, but not too high that your blowing out. Make sure Trim Tabs at least 1/4" from the bottom running surface . . . These changes can make several MPH (and GPH) difference on your rig.

Always prop the boat so that the motor can hit the high end of the recommended RPM range with a full load.

i have a 150 mercury o,b and asked the same question it came with a 14x19 inch prop and was not happy low top end and cavitates
i switched to a 15x17 and its like a knew engine go with a 15x17 i turn aluminum but if i get the cash i would get s.s.
very, VERY happy with it
oh yeah the year of the motor is 1988 shouldnt make a differance just in case you wanted to know
