I made a decsion on my new rifle purchase...!!!
 

If you guys remember I posted a little while ago on the 7400 and 7600 Remington trying to get experienced opinions on them. I had almost decided on the 7600, but I really wanted a 7mag and it isnt chambered in that round. I am not a big proponent of "too big" guns, but I have a .243 that I love and I was interested in covering the other end of the caliber spectrum should I ever be lucky enough to go to Canada and deer hunt or hunt bear, elk, moose, etc... I also dont have the budget to have a bunch of "overlaping" caliber guns...it also doesnt make much sense.

I also have/had a 30.06, but we will get to that in a minute. *;D

SO, I went into The Shooting Center the other day just looking around at used rifles and such. I really wasnt intent on buying one, but I was trying to get ideas. I also wanted to take a look at the TC Encore to see what the fuss was all about. They had two Encores in, one was 209x50 in wood/blued and the other 30.06 in stainless/camo synthetic. I handled both and when I picked up the stainless/camo my "member" did the ol "salute" and my eyes did this: *:o

I decided I better leave since I had enough fire power in the truck to make an even trade and I might do something I would regret.

I left and done some research and thinking on the matter. I talked to a buddy or two who owned or knew someone who owned one and all I heard was great things. I also talked to my wife's uncle who works/sights in rifles for Quints (local sporting goods store) and he had only great things to say. I did much research via the net and WOW you can get ANYTHING on Ebay for the TCs. *:o

I sold the 30.06 to a good friend that needed a good rifle and I made my decision and put me one on layaway at The Shooting Center just a few minutes ago. I will be getting the stainless/camo in 7mag. This will be next year's rifle as I wont have it off in time to hunt with it this season. For the money I COULD one of many different rifles, but I look for this to be my last high powered rifle purchase. This rifle will last me a lifetime and I will also be able to get other barrels for it as well. I hope to (one day) get a 209x50 and a 45-70 gov. barrel for it....oh and maybe a .22 hornet. *8)

You will love it Stinky, I bought one two years ago for my son and I use it all the time. Went blued /wood stock. 20 gauge rifled barrell. Leupold scope 1.5x 5. Shoots one ragged hole at 50 and two inches at 100. Knocks deer flat on their keisters ;)

Hey Stinky if you keep your eyes open you can find good buys on extra barrels. If your looking for a good heavy caliber that won't break your shoulder and gives you a little more umph for larger game the winchester 300 wsm or the regular 300 is a dang good one. People I know have used it on Elk and large Blacks in Alaska with excellent results. Flat shooting and a lot of good bullet weights. Sort of a beefed up 06

Yeah thanks willy!! I am seeing some pretty good buys on Ebay for barrels. I am also excited about setting up a barrel for it in a pistol. Im thinkin a 45-70 or 480 on the handgun. That would be baaaad! :D

Yea Stinky, bad on your wrist. Too heavy a bullet, makes big womp womp on your wrist for little gain. Besides we know you need that wrist for other activity's right ;D

Nah Stinky is OK He and I are starting a song writing duo gonna make some money gonna rewrite a lot of classics, add a new twist I just gonna have to sign him out of the facility every day to do it ;D

We'll be the new Coral Reefers move down to Sebastian Inlet by the Grand Puhbah, hang out with Arlo Guthrie. Fish all day and drink Rum all night and write a few songs.

OK, I got a nice year end bonus so now I am ready to pay it off. I went by the shop to do so and he says he dont know when he will be able to get his hands on a 7mag barrel in stainless since it is hunting season. He has a .300 in stainless though...what do yall think? Go .300 or wait on lucky 7? ???

Stink I like the 7's , my favorite rifle is an Obendorf Mauser in 7x57. But buying new and looking for that all around big game rifle it would have to be the 300 Win Mag. JMHO

Thats kinda what I was thinkin Willy...lighter loads for WT and if I ever get to go up North for Elk, moose, bear I will be ready will a heavier 180 or 200 grain load.. ;D

I got her....I shot her...I am in love. 8)


On a side note, the TC in .300 win mag doesnt kick as bad as I expected. I had a 30.06 in bolt action synthetic that I absolutely dreaded shooting. :x If I got off 3 shots I was hurting bad. :roll: I shot the .300 4 times and didnt feel taken advantage of. :shock: I will attribute the tolerable recoil to the heavy barrel on the TC and the handgrip on the stock. It isnt scoped but the weight of it is very comparable to my fully scoped wood Remington 700.....I held them side by side and I even think the TC was a little heavier. :)

The barrel break (trigger gaurd) is smo-o-o-th and the gun locks back closed with a SOLID latch. Overall seems to be a sweetly engineered rifle. I wont know what kinda groups it shoots till later this summer, but I feel from reports Ive heard and articles Ive read I wont be disappointed. 8)

Congrats Stinky, the Remington with standard style stock will generate recoil straight back and sharply. The TC stock config tends to spread recoil a little better. Your going to like that one. Met a guy a few years ago with the Encore like us with 4 barrels for it covering everything. Loved it .

JK, anyways, yeah I had her all ready for bed, dressed and everything and then the wife came in and moved her. :o She made me put her in the gun closet! ::) She sure is gonna be lonely in there without me rubbing her. :'(
