Hey Phatdaddy
In another post, you mention building crab traps out of milk crates.
First, does the milk company know you did this (just kidding) :o Second, can you post some pictures of how you did that? Thanks ;) |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
Milk crates, the building blocks of the universe. *These are stone crap traps. *You can buy real traps *for about $10. but I was trying to get by till i go back to the keys to buy some more.
Pour 1" of sak crete in the bottom http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../crabtrap1.jpg build a slatted top out of pt. *the entry is a 4" pvc coupler cut in half http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../crabtrap4.jpg I use zip ties to hold the lids on, that way I know if somebody has been into it http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../crabtrap3.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../crabtrap3.jpg tie a rope on with a bouy Throw in water & wait for dinner to crawl in. I usually bait with fish heads and skins or pigs feet. The bouy has to have a R on it to identify it as a recreational trap, not commercial http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../crabtrap5.jpg It is not cost effective to do this, but all of my traps were stolen in the early season, I was just making do till next year |

Re: Hey Phatdaddy
mj please don't turn me over to the milk crate police!!
|
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
ha ha there are like 25 of them here right now! :o Thats not a confession!! its hear say you can't use in in court!
But that speeding sign going to get you caught for sure!! |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
In NC it is a misdemeanor to possess milk crates that bear the dairy's name. *
I suggest sanding off the name. |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
MJ, just so you know it is not hearsay when you get it directly from the offender, it's called a confession 8)
And no need to steal them things anymore, you can buy them for a few bucks apiece in any of the wallymarts or depo type stores |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
I just found them here I have no idea were they came from?? ::)
Buy them :o They are two thin when you buy them and why buy when there are so many for free, just abanded on the st.? |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
I think it is fine here also. I have a friend who works a a retail store and when they get broken ones, his milk guy saves them for us. that's my story & I'm stickin with it.
My wife works at an elementary school and you would not believe how many are in the teachers rooms. now wonder milk is $3.50 a gallon. |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
Thanks for the pictorial. ;)

Re: Hey Phatdaddy
Cool Phat, nice pics, nice instructions. Making me want some crabcakes. :D
|
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
no problem, now if the weather will clear up, i can start soaking them.
|
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
Great Pics. But wouldnt they crawl back out of te hole. Figure you would add a mesh screen they would have to crawl through when going through the hole.
I still think its cool. Now I'm hungry. ;D |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
This trap is for stone crabs, not blue crabs. When they drop in the hole on top, they would have to crawl up the sides, across the top, over the lip, & out the hole. The 4" coupler is flush on top of the trap and recessed about 4" into the trap. You only have to check these about every 3 or 4 days. I had one I lost last year for about 3 months. When I found it there were 17 crabs inside. The bait had long gone, but I think they were using it for shelter.

Eat a Peach
Wouldn't leave the dock without it. I also like hootie & the blowfish to troll by. Another good one is buffett"s A1A.(IMHO his last real good effort) |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
With you on the Buffet album, anyone know where the album name "Eat a peach " came from.
Which by the way is my favorite album of all time 8) |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
Funny to read about Buffet this morning. *Just got done loading a bunch onto my new cellphone, which also plays MP3's. *My wife didn't believe me about "Let's get drunk and screw" until I played it for her.

Re: Hey Phatdaddy
I heard it was supposed to be "eat a georgia peach" referring to the bountiful crop of young "peaches" hanging out with the boys in the band around statesboro at the time.
They just had a story in the local paper that JB is opening a Margaritaville on the beach soon. Just what fl needs, another $12 cheeseburger. |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
I think I know that one willy.....one of the Allman bros., I don't know which one, blasted his motorcycle into a produce delivery truck full of peaches and killed himself, hence, "Eat a Peach"
|
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
Thats it Phes, plowed his Fat Boy right into a peach truck.
Pretty unique sense of humor heh :D |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
Don't know the Peach story...maybe you can tell me that sometime if we get a chance to talk ::) ...
Allman Bros played a club here in Sptbg just as their FIRST album was released...thought that old buildin' was gonna crumble that night...it was AWSOME 8) 8) 8) ...I was about 20 (35 yrs ago) and the club mgr asked me to check IDs at the door...did til the Bros cranked up, then deserted my post ;D ... Not but two actual brothers...Greg and Dwayne...Dwayne's the one who ''ate the peach'' cause Greg's still around :) ... |
Re: Hey Phatdaddy
They used to play at a bar called "The Old Dutch" on PC Beach in the late 60's. They were called The Allman Joys. Never saw them , just a local legend.
