Re: Project No. 1

That's cool stuff... I'd never have the nerve to tackle somethin like that.

Got one stupid question.

If the hull's on "blocks", how in the heck to ya get it on a trailer? I can already picture myself with a handfull of neighbors tryin to "horse it on over" or somethin rediculous like that.... just curious...

Cool project!!

Skools Out 08-23-2005 08:56 PM

Re: Project No. 1

easier than you thing first wet down the trailer rollers or bunks and then get the trailer lined up on the boat straight and hook the wench to the boat. then get a jack once the trailer touchs the boat and jack the boat in the center jut behind the blocks till it will start on the trailer. then put the truck in neutral and let the wench pull the trailer under the boat. works best if the boat is tied to a tree in the rear or something. It is actually very easy and taking them off is too. Just tie the back to something and drive the trailer out about 4 ft then block the back then drive the rest till it's almost off the trailer and jack the front up slightly the block it off the trailer.

Or in my garage i just lift them by the bow eye and the transom eyes on the boats. with comalongs from the roof.

skool, a buddy of mine had a 21 Cont.,center console as I recall it was quite a sturdy boat. It was a bit underpowered... when he bought it it had a 140 Mariner. Once on plane it went pretty good and it was a pretty comfy ride. Good luck w/ your project

Re: Project No. 1

thanks I'm going to put a 225 Johnson on the boat. it had a 120 Evinrude but wasn't enough. I'm trying to get this on done so it will be ready to be sold come spring. Then next the old 19' Sea Ox. I'm currently looking at buying a 26' Marothon boat how are they? Any idea out there. It's a cheap buy and it only needs a new home but i want it to buy use this fall and sell next spring. Still got to keep the ol V20 . Hope to start on the 250 Sea Ray after i finish the Sea Ox. So many boats so little time lol.

Hey Skool, I know what you mean about "so many boats". Remember those two I had sittin under cover when you came to my house? I sold em on eBay last week. I ended up taking $1500 for the pair, which I was very happy with. Now, I'm down to 2 boats - one V20 and one V21. Just need somebody to buy the V20, and I'm all set.

Hey here's some flare for you. That's a 34 ft over grown V-20. I hope to start building a boat like that soon. I'll let you know when i'm done if anyone wants one i may build a few to sell.

Re: Project No. 1

That boat looks really sweet without a bow rail on it. That's the look I was going for with my '72.

But, on the '94, it came from the factory with a welded stainles bow rail. Its so sturdy I can do chin ups on it while the boat is on the trailer. Try that with those cheap, pieced-together, chrome-plated bow-rails you normally see.

The welded stainless rail made me "pro-bow rail" again. I had been 100% opposed, but now I saw the light.

That's purdy, Skool...who makes that boat...looks lika Carolina Custom...that's a lotta flair!...

Oh yeah, just read your boat off the trailer technique above...votin' Skool as havin' LARGEST NORTONS on the board!!... ;D...

Hey Skools, if we ever win the lottery we may have you build the new V20 - NS-Edition

Skools Out 09-14-2005 01:03 AM

Re: Project No. 1

AIGHT sounds good. I believe the new V-20 should be wider though like 9' 6" beam and 8' 6" at transom. hey here's you a nice boat. A guy i know at the beach built this in his back yard took him about 2 yrs since he has a steady job. Then he decided to sell it.

Re: Project No. 1

Hey, Skool...wonder if that guy could use an apprentice?...man, I'd go work in that shop for FREE!!... 8)...he really makes a NICE boat...but one thing...the boat "for sale" has no lifting strakes...smaller hull in the shop's got 'em...?...wassup? ???...

and can you request more deadrise?...our V20s got more than that... ;) :)...

Skools Out 09-15-2005 01:40 AM

Re: Project No. 1

not sure on the strikes in the picture he took those pics lol. Unless he was using those to hold the panels in till the gluing dried? not sure i'll ask him on that one and i'll ask him about the dead rise too. he is a wood man he likes wooden boats with glass over them so his boats are heavy.couple things i don't like you can't see one is the front eye is a regular ol galv. eye bolt that he gelcoats with the boat. and has no rear transom tow eyes, but could add the rear ones.

reelapeelin 09-17-2005 05:45 PM

Re: Project No. 1

I'm hearin' the glass-over-wood on the big sporties is LIGHTER than solid fiberglass...don't know how it'd shake out onna 23"er...he does really nice work...bet he'd build one most anyway you want it, deeper dead-rise, SS eyes front and back w/a deposit on the table!!... ;) 8)...

Re: Project No. 1 Updated

i work for the state as a Data Communications Specialist and i learned my boat stuff from reading boat building books and from trial and error. i've restored 4 boats now so it's getting easier. i started messing with boats and jet skis 11 yrs ago and messing with motors since i could walk. my grand dad use to run a tractor sales and repair shop *and my dad use to drive a drag car and build motors with Ronnie Sox *of the Sox & Martin, so i learned motors at a young age. I use to mess with old cars after restoring several i got tired of bondo and metal work so i decided to start the fiberglass area.

Man BR thanks That site brought back some good memories. I emailed that site to dad he will love it he still talks to some of those guys. I hate "Mighty Mouse" wasn't in those pics that was one screaming Chevy II. Didn't see ol Wild Wayne there either. guess some have done like dad and gotten to tired and old feeling for the racing. That was like my second family when i was a kid. if they owned a race car or a super fast street car they came over to the house for parts or to help out you name it they hung out all hours of the night and drank beer lol the good old Shlits Beer. lol We use to tune the cars in the street in front of the house um the good old days i miss thoughs. lol Dad built my first car as an old Camaro with a 650 HP small block with 2800 stall turbo 400 reverse manual valve body and 12 bolt rear end with 3.73 richmond gears and alburn posi unit. um miss it too. that car would fly use to eat chew and spit out the local boys mustang's and camaro's lol. Had the juice but never used it. Had a 250 shot on it to for just in case. Guess that's why i like my boats to fly. I have a need for speed. LOL Thanks again BR

That Camaro sounds rockin! You are lucky to be alive!

Hey Skool, It looks like you left both the inside and outside skin intact when you did the transom on that boat. Just wondering what you replaced the core with and how did it work out?

Skools Out 09-28-2005 01:19 AM

Re: Project No. 1 Updated

used chain saw and cut out all the old wood then replaced it with new one piece 10 layer marine burch 2" plywood. Worked out great.

Mulv80 09-28-2005 01:21 PM

Re: Project No. 1 Updated

Skool, How did you get the new core to adhere to the fiberglass skin. I was thinking of just slathering the new core with epoxy and fitting it in but I wasnt sure it would work.
