Black Widow Spider

Well, it was about to rain so I went out to make sure the 4-wheeler was covered up. *Reached for the tarp to pull it over and low and behold - a female Black Widow sitting on a big egg sack the size of a marble!

I hope ya'll appreciate me risking life and limb to get this pic....had to put the camera phone WAY too close for comfort for this pic... :o

These things are all too common around my house. *I've seen half a dozen of em in the past 10 years.

Actually a healthy bloke like yourself could have probably sustained a bite with no major problems. ::)

SISSY! ;D

Re: Black Widow Spider

Yea but you end up with a hunk of dead skin tissue around the bite site, if you are lucky. If you have a sensitivity to it you can go into anaphylactic shock within about five to ten minutes. The wound site is also prone to serious infection due to the tissue unable to fend off bacterial infection from the venom.
Kill it and burn the little egg sack. We got em too, love old garages and barns.

Re: Black Widow Spider

Had em at work pretty bad. One got my wife and that ended most of their lives. Up until that time I had never seen one. She got antibiotics and had no real ill effects after that. She wanted to nuke the place and come to find out, chemicals only work if they are applied directly on the spiders. She is fine now with mashing them. ;D

Brown recluse cause necrosis. I thought the black widdows just caused swelling and pain. In any case smash that F*#ker good and her little eggs too. I'll have to find a pic of the spiders from south GA I'm still not use to the big eight legged freaks.

Re: Black Widow Spider

Living in an old farm house,
I get all kinds of bugs,
but the ones that scare my wife the most
are the big hairy wood spiders.
They are harmless and scared of people,
just get close and they run.
Wife always says kill that turantula.

Anyway here is a pic, they look meaner than they are:

Yep, I squashed her lil butt and mashed the younguns in the incubating sack too. *I got younguns of my own running around so don't want to take any chances by letting that egg sack mature...prolly hundreds or thousands of them inside *:o

Parish, we have those too...you have to turn yer head when you smash em so the juice won't squirt in your eyes :D

Re: Black Widow Spider

Stinky that may explain a few things. I'm not squeamish when it comes to bugs snakes or even guys in thongs. But I don't take chances with anything. Especially guys in thongs ;D
Several years back when I was in Montana, where I got my 6x6 Elk with my longbow we were camped way back into the Charles Russell Wilderness Area and we had one big canvass tent and the old style class C camper. The other three guys with me wanted to sleep in the camper and I wanted to be outside in tent. It was so beautiful there listening to the elk bugel and the coyotes yelping etc. But twice when I woke up in the morning I had a scorpion in amongst my bedroll. And at night when I went to bed I had to shake out the biggest brightest marked hourglass backed little biatches you have ever seen.
The place was gorgeous and everything there was big but there were more things that bite there than anything I had ever seen :-/

Thats some awesome "man" stuff right there Willy. I am inspired.

Please excuse me while I go skin a polar bear with a pop sickle stick and fight off ravenous wolves with my bare hands as they make attempts on my life for the remains. 8)

Just like McGiver, but don't forget to make new trailer tires out of the
bear intestines and use the bones for a swim platform and ladder. ;) ;) ;D

I'm glad you saw her first.

I got nailed a few months ago by a Brown Widow. I saw it crawling up my pants leg and swatted it with my hand. Bastid got my right pinky finger. I didn't suffer any real pain other than general ache...and very deep alomst in a coma sleeps. After 3 dayz I was OK.

I'll be darned if I didn't run across one (black widow) in the bow hatch of my boat a couple hours ago and couldn't get to mashing capability before she scooted away.

Been there, done that, the T shirt don't fit.
Got to get the chemical directly on the culprit, no other way is effective.
