Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
I think twin 250's on the back of a 250 would be too scary for me. What kind of speed are you shootin' for? I'm satisfied with the performance I'm getting from my single 1986 Yamaha V6 Special (220HP), but considering it's 21 years old I have the same attitude about my motor as my job... always be looking for your next one. I'll definitely stick with a single anywhere from 225HP to 300HP but if I were thinking twins I'd probably say 150's minimum and 200's max. According to Wellcraft the hull is rated for 300HP max.
What's the current status of your 250 project? Steve P. |
Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
think my V could handle a bracket and 2 of those???
:o ::) ;D :D |
Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
mine just needs motors but it's not a outboard boat it's a Sea-Drive full transom with the twins bracket they have a higher rating at 450 on those and larger fuel tanks 250 gallon ugh, had twin 200's but i have a set of 225's for it, i really want a set of twin E-Tec 175's

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
I just wish I could find a nice 248/250 in my price range. I've driven one with twin 225 EVINRUDES and wasn't the happiest with it(to stern heavy for me). I want one with a pair of 4 cylinder outboards, or a single V-8 I/O. I have a nice 315HP 350 in the shop as well as a BRAVO 1 outdrive to go with it. Just can't find a boat priced reasonably enough for me now. Before I got the engine and outdrive I could find 248's laying around for $2K or less with trailers needing repower. The last 248 I called on needed a new transom and stringers, and he wanted $3500 for it with a bad trailer to boot. Hopefully somethin else will come along this winter.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
Skools,
So are you going to hang onto the 250? Twin 175's would be a sweet setup. One thing that I want to do something about is anchor and rode storage. I think I remember seeing where you were adding a pulpit but what are you going to do about storing the rode. Mine has no anchor locker or deck pipe. I assume yours is the same? Steve P. |
Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
mine has an anchor roller with pulpit and windless in the cabinin a box to control the anchor.
Well Ferm are you willing to come to NC for one? i found one that has a 3.0 Sea-Drive on it and has full transom. |
Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
Skools, is that original or aftermarket? Any pictures?
Thanks, Steve P. |
Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
original sorry i don't have any pics currently i'll try to get you some. most of them had pulpits as original equiptment
hey Ferm here's you one but you'll need frank to get you the number to call, Frank it's located on the road going to Harkers Island after you turn off 70 at the gas station it will be onthe right in the curve across from tbe fresh shimp shop The boat has a solid floor itself but the floor hatch over the fuel tank is soft but the floor is soild every where else i could find. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-002S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-001S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-003S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-004S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-005S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-006S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-007S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-008S.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...0/MVC-009S.jpg |
Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
SKOOLZ now you got me droolin man ;D. Wish I could find one like that local to me. If I had my 6.5 up and goin I'd be on my way already. Unfortunately I have to get my housing fixed up and squared away so I can move out of my current place :'(. Priorities first though ************** >:(.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
well just hurry up and then you can come pick it up, it's not in a location for alot of traffic from out of area to see it so it may last.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
Hopefully I can get all of my wiring done soon. Unfortunately though my 6.5 is in major need of repair, HYPERTECH chips are not very kind to 6.5's(hard lesson learned after the fact >:(). Head gaskets and freeze plugs are the best case scenario for the engine, but the tranny needs new frictions and seals as well as some valve body upgrades.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
how many miles that 6.5 got? mine has original motor and trans but the torque converter i had to change out at 200K due to it stopped staying locked in O/D i installed an allison HD one, it currently has 221,500 on it

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
Thanks Skools. I've seen them with the factory pulpit but I haven't seen the winch setup you're talking about. That's what I'd like to see, and where the anchor line gets stowed.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
back to the 300 idea, word is ther will be a lot of deals on 300 Suzuki's around soon, Suzuki had an issue with the ecm on '07 300's and held up deliverys, they got the problem fixed, but now we are into the '08 year model and they have a lot of '07's around, even at a great deal, they are still out of my price range

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
i took the pulpit off mine to work on it i have a pic of it let me find it and i'll show where the cable goes into the cabin onto a windless system. the grey is duct tape to cover the holes to avoid water. the red circle is showing the hole that's covered with tape but there's a roller that goes there.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
It has 175K on it now, but my tranny has the sealing ring issues in the valve body. The lock-up valve sticks in the bore though every once in awhile and it loses pressure to the lock-up clutch. I've had a couple of my friends that work on em everday look at it and nobody can figure it out. I figure I'll freshen it up just to be safe. My biggest problem's started when I did the optic bump to up the fuel with the #9 resister, made BIG power for a little while until the tranny started slippin. And my head gaskets went because the guy I bought my SUB from didn't change his coolant enough, he had the system flushed and all nice and clean though when I looked at it and bought it. Oh well, I still like my SUBURBAN ;D(and SMOKE!).
|
Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
mine has the #9 and has had it for 90K miles no issues but i by passed the vacuum control for the turbo i hooked the turbo straight to the vacuum pump and now she makes 8 lbs of boost on reg driving and when into the throttle hard it gets 12 to 14 lbs of boost, it has been that way for the last 75K miles no issues so far. it pulls its *** off we checked it the factory had 192 hp w/ 295 ft lb torque was getting 17 mpg town and 19 hwy but now i'm making 267 hp w/ 433 ft lbs torque and gets 21 mpg town and 23 hwy now plus towing the 250 i get 19 mpg hwy.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
What got me was my HYPERTECH chip I tried when I first got it. I wasn't paying attention for a few seconds and got on it to get out in traffic and the PYROMETER hit 1375 REALLY quick. These old IDI's don't like that stuff. Mine runs 7-8 sustained in stock form, spikes to 12 on accel. When I had the HYPERTECH I could throw my 2500 SUBURBAN sideways on dry pavement at will. But you know the saying, you play you pay. Aint no thing, I'll get it fixed shortly. She's next on the block. Done told everybody no more freebies, and my old girl is next in line.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
I used to work for a street sweeper manufacture and we used 6.5's in some of the trucks(they didn't hold up too good), we had issues with blown head gaskets and stuck injectors( These were N/a models). They took one of the heads to the fab shop and cut it up in 1" increments to look at the cooliing passages, they were some of the most restrictive, tight turn, full of slag coolant pasages I've ever imagined. We were getting surface temps of 325 right around the injectors under hard load( those trucks had two speeds, sweep and wide open, 45 mph). The injectors were sticking open under load from the excess heat and when you backed out of the throttle it would hydraulic the cylinders kicking the crank out the bottom. We initially had the temp sender located on the heads and couldn't get the temps lower than 225, GM told us to relocate the sender to the block, some fix! I heard one of the dealers had replaced the antifreeze with some type of special coolant(can't remember the name but its distributed by Mack Boring) that had superior heat transfer ability. That dealer had no more problems with head gaskets or injectors. After GM sold the tooling to those engines to AM General, they suppposable retooled everything and got them to hold up better(had to pass Military spec), Marine Diesel USA is selling those motors up to 425 HP in a supercharged version, they must have found something right.

Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
Spare i hate to tell ya but those weren't GM motors the 6.5 and the new 6.6 are both Isuzu Motors
|
Re: I want for my 250 Wellcraft
The 6.6 DMAX is a cooperative effort between ISUZU and GM early on. But the latest LBZ and now LMM are all GM's baby. GM took over assembly for last year when the 365HP LBZ came out, all of it is done in house. But the 6.5 is a direct relative of the 6.2, they share the same deck height and spacing with each other. They even use the same cranks and rods. GM took the 6.2 and made the cylinder walls thicker so you could bore them out more to get the 6.5. The last 6.2's and the first 6.5's were all the same casting number blocks(599), GM just bored the 6.5's out further. I can guarranty you with 100% certainty that the 6.5 is a GM baby based off of the original 6.2 that DETROIT DIESEL designed for them in 81(back when GM still owned DETROIT DIESEL).
And GM relinquished the tooling to AM GENERAL for the 6.5 because the military was tired of all of the 506 casting block failures, and it was part of there contract. AM GENERAL contracted INTERNATIONAL to redesign the 6.5 even further from the last GM revisions in late 98 to the current platform it is today. This is why the latest 6.5's have the double triangle in the valley(INTERNATIONALS emblem). I'm still waiting for the newest revision of the 6.5 to hit streets though. They supposedly turned to the aftermarket to redesign the 6.5 to new mil spec standards, and to meet the newest emissions as well. Rumor is LUNATI is supposed to be making the forged cranks, and the block is supposed to have even more main webbing material added. But it was supposed to be available spring of 07, still waiting. |
