Think you've had a bad day?
These two boats have been sitting on the rocks at Naptree Point in Rhode Island for about 10 days. *The story goes that one was stuck by the rocks and the other was trying to help the first. *How they got THAT far up is beyond my comprehension.....tide? *big waves?

Re: Think you've had a bad day?
A couple of months ago some people ran their 25-28 foot express cruiser over the jetty at the mouth of the Savannah river. They complained that their GPS said they were in water that was plenty deep. I wonder why some people stare at a seven inch screen that gets it's information from a government owned satellite thousands of miles out in outerspace to tell them they're about to run into an island. ??? ???
Something along the lines of seeing the forest through the trees. |
Re: Think you've had a bad day?
that's painful to look at......boat #1 is obviously a Grady, anybody got a guess as to boat #2 ?

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...northjetty.jpg I've only been in that area once in the PD. *It was high tide and I couldn't see the jetty at all. *Wanted to turn North toward HHI, but was really leery, because of that "Partially submerged at MHW" thang. * :-/ Anyway, back on topic -- Whale, looks like the tide stranded them. The darker color of the rocks shows where high water goes. Seeing those two up on the rocks reminds me of two times I towed boats, "rescued" them. *One was a sailboat, much bigger than the PD, that had gone mildly aground on a sandbar in a tidal creek. *Thanks to the drag of that keel, and the fact that I had run a line from only my port stern cleat, and the tide running strong, I almost ran aground myself. *The other was a Grady whose engine quit and they managed to anchor right near bridge pilings. *I had to toss them a line, secure it to my stern cleat and get her going all the while the tide current threatened to put us both into the bridge. *In retrospect I should not have attempted either tow. *Hopefully I won't try anything so stupid again. *I'll tow anyone in need, but am not going to put my vessel and passengers in jeapardy. |
Re: Think you've had a bad day?
Oops, been too many years. THIS was what made me leery
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...breakwater.jpg It wasn't the jetty, it was the "submerged breakwater." What the heck ??? |
Re: Think you've had a bad day?
Hey PD, it was the jetty at the southern side of the river channel. *When they hit it the tide was already going out and most of the jetty was visible where they hit it. Just not paying attention. I've always wondered about that submerged break water, I think it's probably deep enough, I'll just let someone else find out for me! * ;D ;D
Have you ever been to Marshside Mama's on Daufuskie near the landing on Cooper river? |
