BigShrimpin
Squeteague? That would be a new name to me. I'll start calling them that down here to annoy everyone this summmer. ;D They are called Weakfish here - down farther south some call them seatrout even though they are a different fish then the "seatrout" they catch in florida. Those are some pretty big ones for this day and age in the cooler. Chum- they have really dropped off here in recent years. Lots of small "spike" weakies in the fall ff the beaches but none of the big "tiderunners" of the old days!! |

Re: No v20 fish pics yet
I dunno . . . that's what some people call'em around cape cod (but there not so common around there). Looks like people called them chickwit too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ Weakfish - definition from gcide squeteague \sque*teague"\ (skw[-e]*t[=e]g"), n. [From the North American Indian name.] (Zool.) An American sciaenoid fish (Cynoscion regalis), abundant on the Atlantic coast of the United States, and much valued as a food fish. It is of a bright silvery color, with iridescent reflections. Called also weakfish, squitee, chickwit, and sea trout. The spotted squeteague (Cynoscion nebulosus ) of the Southern United States is a similar fish, but the back and upper fins are spotted with black. It is called also spotted weakfish and squit, and, locally, sea trout, and sea salmon. See also under squitee. [1913 Webster] Weakfish \Weak"fish`\, n. (Zool.) Any fish of the genus Cynoscion; a squeteague; -- so called from its tender mouth. See Squeteague. [1913 Webster] Spotted weakfish (Zool.), the spotted squeteague. [1913 Webster] |
Re: No v20 fish pics yet
Those trout are so big they look like speckled stripers :o
I hear they're not near as good on the table as their speckled cousins. |
