Screwin Around
Grabbed the heat gun today and started removing the 30 year old decals. Lighly sanded, washed and started to compound teh hull today.

Re: Screwin Around
The compound got rid of 30 years that chaulky crap.
I'll throw on a coat of 3M wax and see how the hull looks, then decide to boot stripe it, repaint or whatever. All this fun is starting to feel like work now. :-/ ;D |
Re: Screwin Around
awsome pics ..... may I make a suggestion ;D to do compounding you must raise the right elbow just a bit higher ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D and tilt the head to the left at a 45 degree angle ;D and hum the theme to gilligans island ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re: Screwin Around
And the most proper form is to have the beer at arms reach! ;D
|
Re: Screwin Around
I did that to mine a couple of months ago. *I used the wifey's hair dryer and wore my thumb nails down to nothing! *I got the remaining goo off with super fine steel wool and mineral spirits. *Followed up with some Meguiar's fine cut cleaner wax. I think it looks better either without the stickers or with just the "W". *(Not the George Bush variety, though plenty of Busch beer was on consumed). * ;D ;D ;D

Re: Screwin Around

Re: Screwin Around
Here's a question, is it ok to wax the hull and then install the boot stripe and wellcraft decal ?? or will having wax on the hull effect the bootstriping and decal sticking properly ????
|
Re: Screwin Around
mike when I had my boot stripe and graphics done the guy had me come down and wax the boat first ;) before he would install them ;)

Re: Screwin Around
We like it better when you take the pictures and Lefty's in em!
|
Re: Screwin Around
Thanks Lumber. ;)
Br sure to add a few pics. of Lefty as well. ;D |
Re: Screwin Around
Normally you'd wax before putting on decals and then remove the wax at the locations the decals are to go (say with alcohol).
This way you don't damage the decals after the installation by waxing. The decals (usually installed with warm water and soap) or the glue affixed stripes can be removed or adjusted easily within a week after installation (or till the adhesive sets). |
Re: Screwin Around
Thanks T. I plan on not running the boot stripe tight to th ebottom paint this time. Gonna leave like a 1/2 gap this time. And hopefully she goes on straight too. ;D

Re: Screwin Around
Next time he stops by, please have him put your fenders inside your original boat. Poor thing looks like she's been abandoned. Hammer, you're a LEO, isn't there some law about leaving them overboard? If so, I'd like to make a citizen's arrest. Only kidding. ;)
