Most durable outboard, duma$$ boater

True story, and I know the guy...

This gentleman enjoyed an afternoon of fishing, then loaded his 19' Center console w/ a Yam 90 fourstroke on the drive-on trailer. Then he proceeded to climb onto the dock, got in his truck, and drove from OC to Salisbury, MD.

Here is where the story gets ugly. When he backed into the driveway, he got out of his truck to find that the motor was STILL RUNNING!. :o At this point the motor was still running, but was described as having "a bad rattle." ::)

He took it into the shop, and the whole thing was toast. Ended up purchasing a new motor. The meter on the old showed 4 hours, and 40 minutes of that was the fateful trip home :o

I guess he didn't tie the boat down before taking off, or pull the plug, or make sure his trailer lights were working, or tilt up the motor, or put his transom saver on.

Does anyone else just drive up on the trailer and take off like that? As quiet as my 4stroke is, I would notice during all of the stuff I have to do before taking off.

Actually, I have seen plenty of people with bunk trailers and side guides load the boat and head out in one motion. It does happen :-/

I'm sure it does.

But even when I am at the beach and the ramp is 150 yards from the house, I walk around the trailer to make sure everything is "right" before traveling the 150 yards.

I pull up and take off....my plug gets pulled at home, no tiedowns needed. Pull her on the trailer and when the driver stops I jump out and GO! :D

Never left a motor on BUT,...............
I did forget to hook the eye to the trailer and dumped the whole boat ( ol'woodson) on the street on my way to the ramp. :-[ lucky no one hit it.
Backed up about 50 yards and winched it back on. Was at the ramp and off w/o damage.
