Purchases coming up.....

Two of these pups. They are "zinc chrome plated", when translated means, "I'll be relplacing them before I die". Where's the stainless in this model? $11.99 each

And last but not least, two new windshield supports. I'm not sure what size I need but it ranges between $12.99 to $16.00 which is 14" long.

Also, looking for a good used set of omc controls with long enough main wire and control cables.

BR, West Marine has the gas caps you seek in SS...$29.99 ea...I bought two of 'em 5 yrs ago....

When you replace these, be sure to run GROUND wire from filler cap to tank...POOF avoidance... ;)

Re: Purchases coming up.....

I used plastic covers and I have no problem!! And I also have to get the windshield post also!

reelapeelin 03-01-2005 09:26 AM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

MJ, as plastic creates static, do you ground plastic caps, too...?

Re: Purchases coming up.....

As the two guys passed ea/other in mid-air, one goin' up, other goin' down, guy goin' down says "Hey Man, know anything about parachutes?"...guy goin' up says, "No, do you know anything about gasin' up boats?"... :P

Re: Purchases coming up.....

I found what I needed in the stainless variety at ShipStore.com. Also got my windshield supports there.

Ordered a small piece of starboard on eBay to cut out and place over my dash. It will cover the guage holes that I don't need and dress things up for the new electronics I'm about to add!

If I get my steering cable tomorrow, I should be test driving for the first time as early as this weekend! That is of course if High Rock Lake has enough water in it ???

I'm really dreading re-wiring this thing!

Re: Purchases coming up.....

What's the second gas fill fitting for? Are you setting up a remote oil fill for a VRO tank? That would be nice.

macojoe 03-02-2005 05:08 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

I have 4 of them!! 3 gas tanks and a remote fill for the 2 cyle oil.

Re: Purchases coming up.....

Rick, I don't know if a metal fill nozzle touching a plastic fuel fitting would cause a static charge or not...metal on metal or plastic on plastic definately will...like if a guy filled up some plastic gas cans, hauled 'em in a pick-up w/a plastic bed liner and that can didn't get grounded before touching that filler cap w/all those fumes...seems it COULD happen...I'm not tryin' to scare a bunch of folks, but why not ground 'em and err on the side of caution?...

Glad you gotta kick outta the parachute story... ;D

CB, what kind of generic reel is that?? What they don't want to put there name on it??

chumbucket 03-03-2005 01:12 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

Just to keep you guessing. ;D It's an AVET SX5.1 ;)

Re: Purchases coming up.....

By the way, I had two sets of controls that I was able to part out and make one good set of controls that will work with my boat, so I've got that checked off the list.

Nice looking reel CB, but two questions for you:
What's that company's track record? Meaning, will those reels hold up? Also, how much $ will it set you back?

chumbucket 03-03-2005 04:45 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

The company has a very good track record and from all reports from people I've talked to that own them. Thumbs up.

http://www.avetreels.com/flash/main.html

That reels retails for @ $155.00 Excellent price for a reel of this quality.

Hmmm............................. ???

reelapeelin 03-04-2005 09:51 AM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

That really ISN'T a bad price for a reel like that....thanx for the link... :D

fillet1 03-04-2005 11:02 AM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

The price is great. You can spend 300+ on a calcutta, trinidad, saltiga, etc. For half the price you get a reel that has better freespool, better drags and gearing and is made in America!

fillet1 03-04-2005 11:03 AM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

And CB- Jamestackle.com ships em for free. I'm sure others do too.

chumbucket 03-04-2005 04:09 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

Yeah, thanks. I found them on a couple other sites that ship free as well. Also have a local tackle shop that has a fresh supply coming soon and he's gonna hold one for me. ;)

macojoe 03-04-2005 04:52 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

all my reels were near that price, some more, so that doesn't scare me!!

But I have been using Penn for so long that I am use to them, have extra parts, can get parts in a heart beat.

So I just think about getting parts fast, cheap, and if I can do it??

I will let CB go first then if he does ok I will jump in!! I use him for a guina pig first! :-*

Official reel tester. ;D

Re: Purchases coming up.....

CB What rod are you putting it on?

chumbucket 03-04-2005 08:41 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

Got a couple of rods I may try before buying a new one. One is a Star Deluxe 7' DLX23C rated 20-30 / 2-6oz. Second is a St. Croix 7' TC70MHF rated 10-20.
I think either will match up nicely.

macojoe 03-04-2005 09:06 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

Hmmm........... I have $1,000 with nothing to do!! Just trying to think what I really need??

fillet1 03-04-2005 10:42 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

CB I was thinking about St Croix - I never owned one. I was looking at seekers and star. I have to actually go to the store to buy rods - I cant pick em by length, action, etc off a web site. Reels are easy.

chumbucket 03-05-2005 01:41 AM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

I like to fondle them as well. You can't always depend on manufacturers ratings. Some conservative and some just don't live up to their stated ratings.

MJ.........need a little help with that 1,000 large? hmmmm??

reelapeelin 03-06-2005 12:33 PM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

MJ, you better hang on to that grand...W's gas prices aren't finished goin' up yet... :o

CT_V-20 03-08-2005 01:43 AM

Re: Purchases coming up.....

MJ, if you can't find a use for that grand, give it to me and I'll endorse your support for the bracket-ed lifestyle. ;D
