Question About Bracket Measurement
 

Racer measured his bracket and says that it has a deadrise of 20 degrees.

I asked the guys at Wellcraft about my transom and from what they were able to determine from their literature, mine measures 15 degrees.

Is that 5 degrees too big of a difference?

MJ, what was the deadrise of your bracket and the measurement of your transom? I know you had to make some alterations and use shims... Was it anything close to a five degree difference?

Any feedback you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

I think you guys are confusing deadrise with transom angle. Transom angle is what's important with a bracket.

I THINK transom angle is 13*???

Try a search on "transom angle". BS posted a diagram on how to measure.

I was going to post the same responce as the TinMan last night, then I got sidetracked.....I don't know how important the DEADRISE is if you're purchasing that kind of bracket.....what is equally [or more] important is the angle of the TRANSOM. Best way I can describe it, in laymans terms, is if you took a level and held it VERTICALLY against the transom cap, and PLUMBED the level downward, there would be a space of perhaps 3-4" between the level and the BOTTOM of the transom. That 3-4" is the ANGLE of the transom and like TinMan posted, it's around 13*. Might be better off to find that post by BS as mentioned, explains it better than I can, diagram also ;)

Once you know the angle of the transom, what are you looking for in a bracket? *Doesn't the angle on the bracket also matter? *

With Racer's bracket having a deadrise of 20* and my transom at 15*, what does that translate to?

Looking directly at the stern from behind the boat, deadrise is the angle of the hull. Here's a diagram of different deadrise angles.

In general, the greater the deadrise the better the boat will handle in the slop but will roll more at anchor or drift. A lesser deadrise will pound more but be more stable at anchor or drift.

gosh durnitt...soacahtoesass! thats the last time i work trig on a 2x4 with a carpenters pencil. if that diagram is correct, and i sure it is, then if i lay my square on top of bracket it should work the same, right? well i get 3 and a half inches. thats 14 degrees of redneck deadrise (A.K.A. transom angle). sorry grace. would ya'll believe that i graduated L.S.U. with a degree in civil engineering? no...? me iether, so i won't tell that lie! but i did make it over 2 years b4 i dropped out.

I got my bracket from a 23 foot Seacraft, it was perfect for the wellcraft!!

BS says that Seacraft has 14* and I think someone said that Wellcraft was 13*, 1* made no difference if they are ture mesurments.


The only thing that made me need shims was the swim platform, because oif the curve in the wellcraft transom.
Seacraft was stright across.

If you are buying new they will make what ever you need.
