My boat is in the shop...
the canvas shop that is. While I'm out of town for work I'm getting a new enclosure built. I got to see the materials and we went over the plans. Should be done mid week coming up. It's going to be a little brighter blue than I wanted, but then maybe mine was dirty? Went with 40 gauge vinyl for the winders.
There will be no straps as it will be supported by poles front and back. Pics will be up soon, then again, I've got pics to post for my last fishing trip as well. Airslot |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
Looking forward to seeing it Air

Re: My boat is in the shop...
Mine is in the shop as well. Just sitting there with no work done to her. Missed out on some nice weather.
Maybe this week she will be home. :( |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
I hate you!! >:( >:( >:(
Just Kidding!! I am Jelious as all get out!! |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
nice goin' Air, I have poles on the back supports, straps on the front. The poles keep things tight and rigid and when you want to get some sun or just have it out of the way, for whatever reason, she'll tilt backward and out of the way. If you haven't already done so.....get the zippered "boot" for the top ;)

Re: My boat is in the shop...
Air: Did you price between Standard Marine and the place in Onley, Which one had the better price and where are you getting you work done.
Looking forward to seeing pictures of it. Turbo |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
Turbo, I went with a canvas top again. I was looking at 4500 - 5500 for what I wanted on the hardtop. I'm having mine done for a really good price. Rodney Banks is doing the work. He should have me done this week. Pics will be coming mid-week.

Slot...ya doin' alum or SS frame...plastic or SS frame-fittings?... ...reason I ask is, if ya go plastic fittings and alum. frame, have him put screws into BOTH side of the fitting...at speed, this will hold better ;) ... ...go ahead, ask me how I know :o ::) ... ...and either way, get the little snap-on plastic stand-offs that keep your new ''glass'' away from fittings and screw-heads... ;) ... |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
Good choice on the 40 gauge ;)

Re: My boat is in the shop...
Looking at Al frame. I had mostly ss fitting w/ a few plastic. Supposed to going all SS fittings.

Re: My boat is in the shop...
Pics of what? Last night the frame was on the boat with nothing else. Pics of the guy in bed with the flu? Hope he's feeling better soon. Just called him but got voicemail. Being as I got no pics to share here, I'll try to get some pics up on the "other thread ;D"

Re: My boat is in the shop...
you catch more fish than anyone i have ever met >:( wish i could fish that much :'(
|
Re: My boat is in the shop...
Cy, I didn't get to fish much this year due to very busy at work and some family medical issues. Next year will be busier at work, but I'm looking to get back on track with the fishies. We've sold the Albemarle so I may be fishing inshore more next year, but I plan to put a hurtin on em.

Re: My boat is in the shop...
me too! i cant wait for the spring striper run. I was too busy at work to go after them this fall.
|
Re: My boat is in the shop...
I ain't wating for spring. *I'm chasing ocean rock Saturday. *Also, anytime the water is above 44 at the CBBT, there are fish to be had.
Still no word on my top :( Airslot |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
Hot digity dogs, my canvas guy is out of bed from the flu finally. He ain't on top of the world yet, bet he's feeling better. The frame modifications are done. He's disassembled the frame for now and is sewing the top. He says top will be done by Monday and curtains will be done this week. We are hoping for a completed project on Dec 25. ;D I didn't have the camera with me, but there really wasn't anything to take pics of. There will be no straps on this top. We have support poles front and rear where the straps used to be. Other than that, there was a pile of material on the sewing table and a roll of 40ga vinyl in the corner.
Shore Power, leave me and Turbo a few fish ;D Airslot |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
Congratulations on at least SOME progress ;D ....be sure to get some of those snap-on plastic hold-outs to keep that new glass away from frame connectors ...if you don't you'll be SO PIST!! ;) ...

Re: My boat is in the shop...
Thanks RAP, I'll look for those online so I know what I'm looking at. The fish are here, the heater is in the garage, and I'm all dressed up with no boat to fish on :(

Re: My boat is in the shop...
I found a website - perfectfit.com - that has all kinds of hardware for cheeeeep prices. The window spacers are like .84 each. The stainless mounts are 3-4 bucks versus the 15 each I paid at worst marine yesterday. Those by the way are going back.

Re: My boat is in the shop...
Airslot: Turbo & I are off Friday, Sat, & Sun and I plan on trying to get him out of the house and hitting Kiptopeake one of those days if the weather is fair. If you dont have your boat back by then let me know and maybe you can go with us. Im just going to drag some eels around the Plantation light area unless I hear about something better.. Turbo needs a fish bad !

Re: My boat is in the shop...

Re: My boat is in the shop...
Thanks for the offer SP, but I'll be in WV those days. I'll be back and with boat starting the 26th. I should be able to fish much of the week between Christmas and New Years.

Re: My boat is in the shop...
Talked w/ my top guy and the actual top is done. :) He figured the windshield panel would be done last night :) :) and that he would tackle the sides by mid-week and the back drop curtain by the weekend. ;D
Oh yeah, got wood? Can't wait to show this thing off. It has all kinds of well thought out features, such as storm flaps that cover the zippers and other seems to keep water out. Well thought out use of velcro, and some other nifty stuff that I have since forgotten. ;) If ya can't tell, I'm ready to get my ride back. The people that work with me really wish I'd go feeshin ;D Airslot |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
I have heard of good and bad on the zipper covers??
Some say they hold the moister longer, and corroding the zippers, must take extra care of them to insure that this doesn't happen. Sounds nice!! I am jealous and haven't even seen it yet! |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
HEck, I ain't seen it yet either. ;)
Airslot |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
My buddy's Grady has the velcro storm flaps over the zippers. ZERO wind gets through.
|
Re: My boat is in the shop...
Just talked to my canvas guy. The top is on and the windshield is done. he had to do it twice because of a flaw in the glass. If I can get there before dark I get a few pics this afternoon. He's going to be working on side curtains tonight and tommorow.

Lookin good fo shizzle my nizzle 8) ;D

Re: My boat is in the shop...
The windows are so tight they look like hard plastic, not 40 gauge soft!
Looking good! |
Re: My boat is in the shop...
That 40# gauge is pretty darn thick. I was surprised for certain. Pics 2 & 3 show the rear and front support poles well. They replaced the straps that I had previously.

Re: My boat is in the shop...
I just bought poles for mine, But I got longer ones to go from the dash to the top, I didn't think they would fit on top well, guess I was wrong.
|
Re: My boat is in the shop...
My front support poles goto the dash, too, but I like Slot's mo-bedder cause less clutter on the dash ;) ...Great lookin' top, Slot!! 8) ...
