Fishing trip pics
Yesterday my son and I went out to the tire reef, 3 miles off
Barnegat inlet for a day of fluke fishing. Turned out that the fluke action was from slow to nothing. While making a move inbetween drifts, we just happened upon a school of hungry bluefish that were jumping and swirling on the surface. Since we wern't catching any fluke, we decided to switch rigs and go for the blues. After about an hour of fast and furious action we had a dozen in the box and had lost about a half dozen more due to straightened hooks, ripped open snapswivels, and broken lines. Big blues are real tackle busters. We knew that we couldn't utilize more than a dozen bluefish so we left them biting, called it a day and went in early. Also while we were in the middle of catching blues, we saw a pod of porposes swimming nearby. Maybe they were catching bluefish too. We didn't catch any fluke, but it was a great day out on the water, and the boat performed flawlessly.http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y77...dy_to_boat.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y77...dy_to_boat.jpg |

I can't make it work at all. I give up.

Re: Fishing trip pics
Hey lucky - you get an "A" for effort! The first one did load correctly. Is that a blue being reeled in or a porpoise fin?
I can smell the salt :-* |
Re: Fishing trip pics
Thats a blue on the end of the line close to the boat.
The blues ranged in size from 8 to 12 lbs. Right now I can't get any pics to post at all. Later tonight I'll try from my home computer and see if that makes any difference. |
Re: Fishing trip pics
LS...that fin looks a little too pointy...sure that wasn't a smark?...

Re: Fishing trip pics
I still can't make it work; the pics are there in "photobucket", but I can't get them to transfer to this site. What does it mean when you get the red "X" where the pic should be?

Re: Fishing trip pics
Hey Lucky, at the bottom of each pic in photobucket you will see three boxes. The bottom one is labeled IMG. Just put your cursor on the info until it is highlighted. Then right click and select "copy". Then come back to your reply message in V20 site, right click and select "paste" in your text box. This should allow you to post the pics. Just hit submit. To do multiple pics, hit the enter button in between the above directions. This is how I do it. Hope it helps. We want to see the pics!

I dont eat bluefish but I like catching them...so does Charlie, enough so that I upgraded him to a 6ft. uglystick w/Penn 4400SS,10lb. test.He lands 'em every time!

Re: Fishing trip pics
p.s. Lucky I like that rear seat over the splashwell,is it removable?
|
Re: Fishing trip pics
Phester, it's a combination cooler/swingback seat that mounts to the floor with six screws. I do occationally take it out; It can be kind of in the way when trying to land big fish.
For calm'er activities , like fluke fishing or crabbing, it can be very handy to have.. |
Re: Fishing trip pics
Hey do yall eat those?
They are considered a nuisance here. Ive eaten them, but they are pretty strong. They do get ALOT bigger up there though..fun to catch. 8) Not trying to be a jerk...just wonderin. ;D |
Re: Fishing trip pics
Stinky, I love small bluefish under 3 lbs or so. Double fillet, remove dark strip from meat, batter and fry. Same day is best but it'll last a day in a ziplock in the fridge. I wouldn't try to freeze any though. Meat is oily and doesn't freeze well.
Its some really good eating despite what you might hear from others. The sad fact is that the ones that don't like it probably ate a piece of that dark strip down the middle due to a poor job cleaning the fish. Either that or tried to freeze and eat a month later :-/ I like it almost as good as flounder (fluke). |
Re: Fishing trip pics
I eat them, but the rest of the family doesn't like them so my wife won't cook'em. I wound up with 4 bags of fillets, already gave 3 away, might try to cook some on the grill from the bag I have left.

Re: Fishing trip pics
Double fillet like BR's talkin' about and cook on SMOKER w/ some bell pepper and onion... ;D...DEELISHUSH!!...only way to cook king mackeral, too...IMHO, of course... 8)...

Re: Fishing trip pics
That does sound good. I've heard the bigger blues are much better smoked. The smaller ones are just fine fried. Here's another way we fixed em:
1) Go out and buy a $600 Holland Grill 2) Next, Take cleaned bluefish meat (from small fishes) and lightly coat with melted butter, salt/pepper. 3) With grill pre-heated to 375 or whatever the Holland cooks at wide open, place fish on grill and close lid. Do not open lid for 10 min. If ya lookin you aint cookin! Open lid and slam face into bluefish meat. Chase down bluefish with favorite beverage and 1 doz. steamed blue crabs ;D ;) 4) Go to bed with pretty woman or wife. Which ever you prefer. P.S. Cut ALL that dark meat OUT! One little piece can spoil the batch! Also, remember that freshness counts. Now back to the bluefish :o :o :o Enjoy! Its good I promise! |
