Racor fuel filter/water separator

Guys

I just received one of many things that I have on my wish to do list for the boat.

It’s a Racor fuel filter with a 316 grade stainless steel bracket. Yep, this bracket will outlive me for sure. ??? :P

With all the latest fuel additives you have to have one of these babes, take a look:

Didja get the 10 micron filter with that?

Re: Racor fuel filter/water separator

I'm pretty sure that the Racor standard is 10 microns. The high dollar filters go finerw/ more capacity.

Yeah. I don't think they're standard. From what I've read, 10 micron seems to work best with the Ethanol based gas. I've heard of people trying finer filters, but ran into problems with them restricting flow because they clog quicker.

Congrats Bassarama. Now that we've established that it's the good "10 micron" filter, lets get a move on. ;) While it looks pretty in your hand, lets see a pic of it mounted in the boat. Heck, we'll give ya till what, how's Saturday afternoon sound. ;D

It'll bee awhile now.
:-/
I need to make up a 1/2 inch shim to mount under the bracket so I have more room for the filter wrench when replacing the filters ;)

Re: Racor fuel filter/water separator

Just remember that plastic bowls permeate gasoline vapors and should not be placed in areas where gas vapors can accumulate. *The Coast Guard really frowns on this.

There is no need to filter below 10 microns for gas engines. Gas injectors and pumps are significantly less... precise than their diesel counterparts.

Re: Racor fuel filter/water separator

I agree.
This is gonna be installed on the OUTSIDE bulkhead of the motor well compartment, easy to see and work on and ....No fumes to deal with. ;)

I have been looking at the RACOR site to get some more information,
one thing I could not find is their recomendation

I change mine every spring.

Re: Racor fuel filter/water separator

they recomend changing when the vacuum on the poutlet side gets too high( its a way to sell vacuum gauges and not be libal about change intervals) I'd have to agree on the once a year minimum, otherwise I'd figure once every 1000 gals? Keepa spare with you, never know when you might need it
