White Navigation stern light Guys, Has anybody mounted their anchor/white/rear all round light permanently to the ganwale or stern. I have never seen a removable one work for very long so I was thinking of permanently attaching one. Does it have to be a certain height? Could I take one that is intended for a hardtop mount and put it on the gunwale? Pablo |

Re: White Navigation stern light Should be in view 360 degrees. I've seen hardtop models that are less than a foot tall. |

Re: White Navigation stern light When I get a chance I will post the reg. But the bottom line is that the 360 deg. stern light has to be 1 meter above the red/green nav. lights. This is really in the way for guys like me who like to fish at night. I would hate to have to live with it also during the day. |

Re: White Navigation stern light OK. Question answered. Bad idea for all the reasons given in a very short period of time. Just getting into fishing so didn't even think of that. That's why I was thinking if it was low. But if it has to be 36" above Nav lights then that kills that idea. Will just have to spring for a new pole light and possible a new base. Thanks! |

Re: White Navigation stern light Over 12 meters (not us :)) stern light NEEDS to be a 135* white light, not 360* |

Re: White Navigation stern light Pablo, replace the base and the pole at the same time. You'll find that the wires are attached to the base with crimp connectors. Bad Idea in my book. Break out the soldering iron and heat shrink tubing and solder them together. (For you younger guys, soldering irons were what they had before soldering guns, and I have 2 that still work great!) Use the heatshrink with the epoxy coating inside. That'll heep the connections from corroding. Also look for the low glare model, they put out a narrower beam than the regular lights and don't interefere with you eyes as much when running the boat. And don't forget to turn it on when anchored at nite. |

Re: White Navigation stern light Hey Hammer...I noticed your bilge pump on other thread and was going to mention that you should re-do your wiring connection as Franco mentioned above. Don't know what you have under that tape but I'm guessing wires are just twisted together??? |

Re: White Navigation stern light Thanks Franco. I have 2 soldering irons as well. It's a plan. I am also thinking that we're pretty close in years on the planet. 1955. |

Re: White Navigation stern light Hey Tin, I dont know the name of the connectors I used when I did my bildge pump. Each wire slid into a flexable platic connector with metal inside. I then crimped them and added that wet tape in a can, and then wrapped them in electrical tape. |

Re: White Navigation stern light OK Hammer, not bad, would've been a bit better if used heatshrink instead of the tape but you should be OK for awhile, good job ;) |

Re: White Navigation stern light They do make crimp connectors with epoxy coated heatshring tubing, I kept a few on board for emergency repairs, they do a pretty good job, but soldering is best |

Re: White Navigation stern light The connections the guys are talkin' about are key to keepin' that light goin'...another thing ya wanna do is shoot a little somethin'( WD, Corrosion X, contact cleaner ) in the base and bottom of pole-connections from time to time...and if ya haven't used it for a while, w/ the juice still wet, plug it in a couple of times to keep those contacts fresh ;) 8) ... I used this base...put it in in '99 and it's never failed...yet ::) ;D ;D... http://www.boatersworld.com/product/197260839.htm |
