Holes in fiberglass

When feeding wires and cable through newly drilled fiberglass holes, what kind of bushing could I use to protect the wire jackets from cutting and chaffing? thanks

Re: Holes in fiberglass

First off you should coat the inside of the hole with 5200 or something to seal the wood, so not to get wet.

Next what wires you running thur the transom? Cables and wireharness are fine the way they are.
If you worryed about other wires you could get some wire loom in the size you need and that will be fine.

If you're passing individual wires through the transom like FF and speedo wiring, Blue Sea Systems CableClams are the only way to go.

just make sure you counter sink the hole in the glass or it will spider crack around the holes, that goes for all holes

Guys...seas&77 says thru fiberglass...doesn't say thru transom, so may not need to be sealed, but if thru glass & wood, MJ has a good point...HomeLowesDepot or a good electrical/electronics supply has good selection of grommets to prevent the chaffing yer talkin' about if thru glass only...and follow Skools tip on counter-sinkin' the holes ;) ...can ya post some pix of where yer drillin' so we can be of more help? :D ...

You're right. I'm not drilling the transom. It's the top of the dash to mount accessories. I ended up using stainless coax cable "clams". they have a rubber gland that tightens around the wire. It works to use it for other wire also. Just put some silicone if it's not a real tight seal. Looks good too.

Well, sometimes they are "nappy headed holes" and all you can do is slob a whole bunch of 5200 on there and hope for the best :-/ ;D
