transducer creates roostertail
I sure I installed the bracket and sounder in the right place, but I'm getting a vertical roostertail right at the transom and about 6" taller than the transom. Should front of the transducer be adjusted downwards? Thanks

Re: transducer creates roostertail
I would check your manual, but the transducers on my Garmins need to be parrellel to the bottom of the hull. maye you have it mounted to close to the center?
My tranducers are located @ the last notch in the hull towrds the out side ends of the transom. |
Re: transducer creates roostertail
Add another ducer to the other side....now you have dual roostertails - should perform much better now ;)
Sorry but could not resist! My swim platform does that, but I really don't give a sh*t! ::) |
Re: transducer creates roostertail
Pointing the front down slightly might reduce the problem. Most tranducers are mounted level with the bottom of the boat or 1/4" below. Chances are it's too deep in the water.
LIKED THAT Blue ;D ;D |
Re: transducer creates roostertail
Anytime there Tsubaki!
Seas, if you still have the installation instructions check over them carefully. Otherwise consult the Garmin website to see if you can find out more. I know those ducers can be picky for sure! |
Re: transducer creates roostertail
If its working correctly I'd leave it alone. Its going to kick up some water.

Re: transducer creates roostertail
I bet if we had a picture we could diagnose it better. ::)

Re: transducer creates roostertail
For what it's worth I just installed a Garmin 498 this weekend with the transom mount transducer and also have the same rooster tail effect.
However the sonar is working great and provides a good picture even at WOT, so I'm not concerned about the rooster tail, as long as the sonar is performing so well. Just my 2 cents. |
Re: transducer creates roostertail
I lose bottom over 25 mph most of the time. :-/

That must be because you're not putting out the proper rooster tail! ;D Actually I just hoped to have a picture on a plane, come to think I'm not positive I checked WOT but defintely still had a good bottom picture at 31 mph |
Re: transducer creates roostertail
Occasionally mine will hold bottom up around 30 but never for any extended length of time. Unless it is flat calm.

Re: transducer creates roostertail
Center line of transducer should be level with the bottom. Billy Mac ;D

LOL!! Good one! All of mine on all the boats I have ever owned have thrown one of some kind...WHO CARES!! ;D |
Re: transducer creates roostertail
As long as you are getting good signal don't worry about it, go fish ;)
|
Re: transducer creates roostertail
At speeds fast tenough to throw a rooster tail, you should be looking where you are going, not where ya been
|
Re: transducer creates roostertail
Correction, mine does NOT throw a rooster tail. I just noticed last weekend, it is a CHICKEN tail.
Sorry about the confusion guys! :-* |
