Starboard battery box anyone??
Well guys in preparation for the addition of my trolling motor that I got a KILLER deal on...(THANKS TWISTED PARROT!!), I had to do some battery mods. I moved my two exiting batteries to under my console and Ill be adding a starting battery for the outboard. It will stay in the old location..right transom hatch. I am excited for the 100lb+ *weight moved to the center of the boat as she was butt heavy bad. ::)
On that note, I actually weighed my Stowaway batteries...deep cycle/trolling went 56lbs and the starting went 50lbs even...WOW thas alot of weight. :o Please excuse photo quality as all I had with me was my phone. I know how yall are picture hos though so I took em anyways. ::) Here is the basic setup of the box with one battery in it. It was roughly 15.5x12.25" in dimensions. I put a small divider between them. http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...061107_003.jpg http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...061107_001.jpg I drilled drain holes in the rear of it so I can wash them off from time to time. http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...061107_004.jpg I marked the width on the rachet strap to route out notches for them to pass through. http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...061107_005.jpg then routed them out.... http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...061107_006.jpg Here they are setup under the console and fastened down. http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...061107_007.jpg Before I tightened the racket strap up I put a small treated 1x6 between them to keep them tight, but not against one another. *;) http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com...061107_008.jpg The box sits on top of two 3" wide pieces of starboard and screws goes through all of it into the floor. I left a little rood under them so as to not build up trash/moisture underneath. 8) Im waiting on a part for my trolling motor to come in (hence the killer deal) so Ill post up that install when it comes. In the meantime the wires are ran and ready...I will add the plug today probably. |

Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Stink, you one of the craftiest guys on the board...good stuff and the risers on the bottom, GOOD touch ;) ... when we mounted my buddy's TM, he wanted the motor-head inside the rub-rail and not inside either, so it stores right over the gunwale...in order to get it right there, we cut a piece of 1" S'board to match release bracket, plus a "dog-ear" for some more mounting surface ... thought there might be some "idea-starters" here for ya ;) ...
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90...n/P9110077.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90...n/P9110076.jpg ...although I'm SURE ya got plenty ideas on your own 8) ... |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Thats a great idea RAP...thanks bud. Im still waiting on my mount to come in...Im getting impatient. I swear if it dont hurry up im gonna start fabbing a starboard one. ::)
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
rap's rite bro. think on it good, or you will be wishin you had done this or that later. that starboard is $$$$$
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Puttin' a TM on the cuddy was a no-brainer ... in stored position, it's over space that's already taken up, leavin' both sides of bow-deck accessible ... w/TM down and slider closed, opens room for casting from bow ...
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90...n/Image007.jpg The plug-in is CLOSE to the motor-base in the vent-cap ... plugs are SS ... plug-in is vertical, so won't catch/hold water ... Parrot makes a point ... if this thing's in the wrong position, it can be a MAJOR PIA ;) ... http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90...n/Image003.jpg |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
location isn't as issue for me IF I can get a freakin mount!! But RAP I been meaning to ask u...what size trolling motor u got on that big sucker?
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
The one on mine is a 72lb thrust ... just after I got mine, the 80lb came out, which is what's on the other one...both 24 volt ... better start thinkin' about on-board battery charger ;) ...

Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
how much does academy want for a new one. rode out to check on that used (and to get some smokes) one i told you about yesterday but, that guy has his yard decorated just the way he wants it and none of his ornaments are for sale.
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
wow RAP that's kinda small for a V20...how does it do? This is a 70 and is the smallest I would go on this boat. I would prefer an 84 to 101 but the price was right...so..
PH I don't know man cause this is the 3x steering and they don't carry it nemore. The regular 70 with a shorter shaft is 650 though. |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
i meant the mount. you know, the thing that you need to MOUNT ur trollin motor.
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Oh....Im getting it for free because I have severals buddies at Academy. That's was setup before ever getting the motor. If I would have had to buy one it wouldn't have been worth it. they want like 400 bones just for the mounts!!! Anyways my manager buddy there is getting one from a Minn Kota rep.
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
good deal. i found them direct from minkota for $250. still hi though. free is better!
unless its paint. free paint bad! |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
on that note...I called him this morning. He said he is 99% sure the freeze over the winter done it. Once paint freezes and thaws he said its worthless. Messes up the chemical composition. :-/
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Actually, Stinky the 72 works quite well on the "V"...I've never wanted for more TM power under any condition...w/Auto-Pilot and Co-Pilot it set me back 9 skins...then add two grp 31 batteries and 2-leg charger...but it's the PERFECT set-up for the way we fish for these stripers down here ...
WTF mount are ya'll talkin' about for $400 :o |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
now you tell me! the freeze sure didnt make it no easier to sand. and to think, i was this close to giving you the green and gettin some blue. just think of the trouble i saved you, lol. like the color though. looks real good from about 50 feet away, lol.
so, what kind of sander you got? d.a. or jitterbug. i need a jitterbug but aint seen no cheap ones. |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Rap, thats good to hear...Im ready to get mine going. The motor mounts haved range, but averaged 350-400. :-/
TP, jitterbug, does real good. 8) Oh and on the paint being hard to sand, that aint got nuthin to do with the freeze. That aint car paint ol buddy it marine URETHANE. How many times I gotta tell you...ITS TOUGH!!! ;) And stop biatchin about it...it was FREE top of the line paint! And YOU are the one who left it on the proch all winter...it was good before YOU got ahold of it. ::) |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Here is a little update....
I took the family camping Thursday night ad Dauphin Island and MAN she ran alot better with those batteries moved forward. The scuppers were above the water at rest while anchored and that has NEVER happened before. here she is: 8) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...at/camp012.jpg |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Stink, that's a great lookin' 18 8) ...yer leanin' post w/bait tank built in, definately fo shizzle ;D ...
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
Thanks RAp, thas a bait holdin mofo fo sho! 8)
|
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
not biatchin at ya. was just sayin that 2 weeks ago when you wanted ur paint back it wioulda caused YOU the greif. thought it ironic, thats all. dont get ur panties in a wad.
remember: YOU CANT BE A PIMP AND A PROSTITUTE TOO !!! |
Re: Starboard battery box anyone??
I can see where 2 batteries would make a bigger difference the smaller the boat...not that the 18 is small but its smaller than a 20. That was a good move man.
You got the 18 dialed in and looking nice. I hear ya. |
