garboard boat plug mod

Ever get tired of fumbling for a wrench or rusty pliers to remove it? *::)

A small brass nipple, a little grinding and soldering and NEVER again! *:D

4" Brass threaded nipple with the thread cut off MJ.

I notched it out with a grinder to fit snugly together.

Get it super hot, solder it and you are good to go!

Re: garboard boat plug mod

Hey Stink, great idea, here is my version of the plug. Tool Maker Style
I used a .250 X 3" CRES dowel pin. I set up my plug and drilled and reamed the hole to .249 to get a .0005 to the side press fit.

Then just for insurance I drilled and tapped a 1/4-20 hole from the inside and installed a CRES set screw.

Re: garboard boat plug mod

Stinky, I like yours better. It is more ergonomic. One of you needs to look into patenting these things.

Wish I had one. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( Whah !! :'( :'(

Re: garboard boat plug mod

The Stinkmiester would be the one with the patent, it was his idea. I can see it now , Stinky Hookers Garboard Boat Plug. For packaging he have picture of him in his thong holding the plug in his hand :). Then maybe he can launch his line of male thongs ;)in assorted colors, it must get boring wearing the same color thong all the time :o :o :o;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re: garboard boat plug mod

Great work 2nd!!!!

But you got to becareful with 2nd's that it doesn't leak!

And to late for nthe pat. I have already started the paper work! ;D

2ndchance 08-16-2007 01:01 PM

Re: garboard boat plug mod

I'm not worried about a leak, between the press fit and the Loctite thread sealant I don't think much water will get by. After you get your patent you could throw Stinky a bone and use him for a model holding MJ"s garboard plug and he could still wear his thong ;D

Re: garboard boat plug mod

MJ on my '73 it had 2 plugs. The garbord plug was underneath rather than on the transom. Is yours the same?

msbhammer 08-16-2007 11:30 PM

Re: garboard boat plug mod

Two plugs ??? ??? ???

Blue_Runner 08-17-2007 12:39 PM

Re: garboard boat plug mod

Heck yeah Hammer....can you imagine? Its hard enough to remember one let alone one UNDER the hull that you can see without bending down! But it sure does let all the water out.

I stressed to the new owner SEVERAL times that it had two plugs and not to forget that :D

Re: garboard boat plug mod
