Cabin door?
I noticed that some V20 have cabin doors. My 73 doesn't have one. Did it originally have one???
Damn, now I want a cabin door! One more thing added to the wish list. ;D |
Re: Cabin door?
I dont believe that they did have cabin doors. It was all open, even under the dash I thought. Our photo gallery should have pics. ;)
|
Re: Cabin door?
No door's on the oldies!! I have thought about adding something, but then decided I no need one. I leave my boat on trailer all the time so security is not a problem.
I have seen a few were some one has made one of Sunbrella and snaps, Just to keeps eyes from seeing. |
Re: Cabin door?
Under my dash there is some kind of black material going down to floor. Looks factory, but maybe not. I'll post some pics of mine later today after I drag boat out of shed. My interior looks like BlueRunners:

Re: Cabin door?
Here's what I did w/ mine...the supports under the dash are 3/4" treated w/ vinyl upholstery...you can barely see that they turn and go into the cabin about 8-9"...this would make door easier, but I like MJ's idea of a Sunbrella or similar snap(or zip?) in...

Re: Cabin door?
Mine doesn't turn in that way, it would make it easier.
But if someone wants in them doors are not going to stop them!! Neither will the Sunbrella, But what it does do, is keep the stuff covered to keep honest people honest!! And the door comes right off and gets out of the way rather slamming around. |
Re: Cabin door?
No doubt if somebody wants in you ain't gonna stop 'em...that's why no doors on mine to begin with...but the ''turn-ins do help hold stuff in place in a chop ;) ...

Re: Cabin door?
Thats a good idea. I like that white vinyl look. I like your dash too. I wanted the door just in case one of the kids wanted to nap while I was fishing. Heres my crappy dash. Getting ready for winter.

Re: Cabin door?
I have the same dash as you, well did, I did the same as reel 1/4 Starboard makes a great new dash!
|
Re: Cabin door?
...and vinyl over ply is CHEAP, too ;) ...and Lowes has got SS staples now... 8) ...

Re: Cabin door?
I have a teak and tinted plexiglass door on my '85 and will probably be taking it off. It 's a p.i.t.a. to clean and oil the teak and I never close it anyway. And besides if someone were to break in they would do more damage than whatever they steal is worth.

Re: Cabin door?
I have taken all the wood out of my boat!! Replaced with Starboard, cleans right up now with no maintains!!

Re: Cabin door?
8barrel,
I have a 73 also and have the same material as what you have under the dash. I thought about a door too; but I don't have the hatch front so there was no real point for me to do it. I made a cover out of plywood but haven't been brave enough to try it with starboard yet. |
Re: Cabin door?
8barrel, lookin' at your pics, that's about same as mine when I got it...I just gutted EVERYTHING and put it all back fresh...keep in mind the panels under the dash SUPPORT the dash...when you remove the panels, have something to prop the dash up and whatever you permanently put back MUST be correct height to keep windshield closeing tight ;) ...

Re: Cabin door?
8barrell
I know where a v-20 is sitting at a marina a buddy of mine owns. It isn't much good but for parts, if youre interested I'll ask if he will sell parts, knowing him he will tell me someone can have it for almost nothing. |
Re: Cabin door?
i have most of the old frame out my 78.
|
Re: Cabin door?
Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to leave it without the door. I am just going to redo the panels under the dash. I still have to make a seatbox with some storage. Its been cold up here in the Northeast and I have the boat all wrapped up now.
I havnt been around much lately. I am going thru a divorce right now, so i got way too much on my plate now. We are getting along, so its not a nasty one. We are actually doing everything ourselves. No lawyers, they just mess everything up. Its still scary tho. I guess the Judge has the final say on everything. |
Re: Cabin door?
I dont believe in Divorce, but a nice long boat ride with the them. ;D

Re: Cabin door?
HAMMER, are you advocating a wreck dive with cement overshoes? ::)

Re: Cabin door?
8barrel,
My 73 is set up just like yours, except I'm missing the sliding hatch. Can you give me the dimensions on the slider so I can attempt to fabricate one? Thanks Franco |
Re: Cabin door?
if you never take my advice onm anything, take it on this, get a lawyer. Been there tried that and I ended up paying through the nose for an attorney in the end to undo all that went wrong. I promise it gets ugly no matter how nice she maybe right now. I'm speaking from experience here.

Re: Cabin door?
Hi I noticed the seats you have in your boat, and I really liked them. Where did you get them?

Which ones ??? ... |
Looking for a type of material ??
I am goin to replace the vynl covered plywood under the dash, at the stern and in front of the gas tanks. I want to replace it with something real strong that can clean eaily. I am looking for a material that is something like the material that white cutting boards are made of. I figure I need 3/ 4 X 8 sheets to do all the work. One sheet for the stern one for the fule tanks and one for the dashes. However I do not know where I can purchase it.
|
Re: Cabin door?
just do a seach for starboard, and take notes, thee are planty of them( as well as uses)

I've done a little work w/Starboard... I'd tell ya to use 1/4" S'board in front of the tanks and 3/4" under the dash...the material in front of the tanks is cosmetic and protective, but has no weight bearing on it...on the other hand, whatever you use under the dash actually SUPPORTS the dash and everything on it, including the windshield ;) ... |
Re: Cabin door?
I bought a full sheet of 3/8 and a full sheet of 3/4
Reel is right 3/4 under dash and on floor covers 3/8 on tank covers rear bulkheads and so on. Works great and easy to clean!! Look here http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/...umName=album94 |
floor covering question
I removed the old carpet that was glued down to the deck when I got the boat. I am thinking of just going over the exsisting deck with 1/8 " perelli sheet vynl. Do they make an 1/8 inch snon slip stille starboard that I can put down over the exisiting deck in tead of the sheet vynl?
|

Re: Cabin door?
Skools posted this in the links section:
http://www.wellcraftv20.com/cgi-bin/...num=1187925715 I found this place: http://www.plasticlumberyard.com/pla...htm#Industrial And if you do a google search, you could find other materials, I can't find the link anymore, but I did find a place that sells the plastic bathroom partitions and a place that sells the textured plastic sheets. |
Re: Cabin door?
I thought about doing this once...sounds about like what you are talking about.

Re: Cabin door?
I made a door of sorts to keep my neighbors cat out of the cabin. I used 1/4 ply. Nuttin' fancy but, does the job.
